Yo, different subject now....but still modular related.
I just restarted trying to play delta slide blues.
I damaged my index finger wehen I was 17.....back then I tried to play the guitar.
Quit after that, but now at 38....I frst bought a squareneck dobro (that's quite difficult ....damn Jerry)..I rediscoverd the guitar in delta slide blues......
I love that blues sound........but got a long way to go.
Do any of you play it?
Do you mix it with the modular or synths?........if so, can I hear it please? _________________ Open tape:

i play plenty of guitar and bass but the only thing i end up going to the modular for to relate the two is when using an instrument interface type module. i tend to treat my stringed instruments as entirely unrelated to other more electronic type things. but that is just me. might be interesting to track your slide guitar with a pll. i frequently like the idea of filtering outside instruments, but by the time i have it sufficiently patched, it just doesn't sound right. dobro just kind of needs to sound like dobro, not to say you couldn't or shouldn't use it as a trigger source or otherwise interact with other instruments but...blues is blues is guitar is blues is... _________________ my bandcamp

Guess you're right......as soon as the synths come in, the might take away the blues feeling.
I'm gonna try the PLL thing though.
Maybe I can give the blues a 2010 feeling. _________________ Open tape:

At first I was like "Who is this clown in the helmet?"
Then I was like "This is actually kinda cool"
Then I thought "Fuck me. I like BobLogIII!"
Not the cleanest slide playing I heard, but it had all the heart, groove and mojo of Bukka White, Lyrics were about as clear as Bukka too.
@Spudboy
Thanks for those open tunings. I generally play standard (if I have to), open G usually, open E and dropped D sometimes, and the ol DADGAD (forget what it's called) on a '94 Dobro. The old ones are out of my range and I'd be afraid to play one and scratch it. I tried a squareneck, but just could not get used to it and I like a mix of slide and fingers, the roundneck works better for me.
No good recent recordings, still working on recording actual analog non-powered by electricity instruments.... I attached an old recording. One thing I'll say about synths is they improve your sense of timing a shitload (I noticed how bad my timing is in the recording). |

Check out some King Sunny Ade - different direction thank what's being talked about , but beautiful slide in a very grooving context. Synchro System is from '83 and has a bit of synthesizer going on.
And for old school you've got to check out speedy west. A verrry amusing song that has amazing slide sounds is Cry of the wild goose by tennessee ernie ford, that's speedy west playing. There's some funky old organ on that tune too. |
