OMG, I love this module.

It's so fun. At first I thought it was going to be kind of kitschy, but the tones that are available are really quite interesting and very unique sounding. It sounds super rad through the Polivoks (who'd a thought?!).

The psuedo random gates are very fun too; mixing all 4 together with some kind of bi-polar mixer to make a pseudo random pitch sequence for the pitch input of the noise generator is too much fun, and the clock output allows you to clock other modules (like your EGs) to it.

I know what you're thinking...clips or it never happened...I'll get them soon enough. For now, settle for pic.

hey! so cool, mine just arrived as well, showed up on friday 8)

i agree with you - LOVE this module, my favorite Harvestman by far (have them all except Tyme Sefari)

the first thing I did was the obvious and just triggered 4 drum voices with the 4 random outs - instant awesomeness. totally feels like cheating!

then I clocked a noise ring with it, and used the noise ring to 'jitter' the clock with those wiardian bursts that it does, and run a couple other drums off of that. wtf so good hyper

and that's just the top half oops

the bottom has some of the coolest digital noises I've ever heard. Using them to modulate the Polyvoks is too much fun

i gotta do that trick you mentioned of mixing the gates and feeding them to the noise freq input... great idea!

but yep, totally share your stoke on this module. In some ways it reminds me of the noise ring, but they both have some really cool features about them that the other does not offer, so i guess more more more

oh yeah the diagonal throw of the switches is a really cool touch that threw me off guard at first. really like it.

Yeah, that's super cool isn't it? And it's very pragmatic; when the switches are "down", they are not butting right up against the patch cable below it! Genius.

Oh man, I've got to try both of those out.

BTW, does the left side of your module (the PCBs and jacks) stick out a bit past the left side of the faceplate? Mine is like the the face plate is shifted a little to the right of center of the module. There's a tad excess faceplate on the right side, and a tad less on the left.

yes it does actually! I thought that was a bit of a lark considering the quasi-DIY nature of my unit (I think you saw J3RK's description of how it was pieced together from two different revision boards...

still it's not enough that it's an issue...

the obvious use, sending the 4 pitched outputs to 4 vca's and the 4 random gates to eg's triggering those vca's. is pretty fun too, specially when voltage controlling pitch/clock with other sources.

i've been having assloads of fun with my zorlon cannon since i got it.
There are alot of great chaotic applications particularly in conjunction with my plan b model 15 vco's.
i use the gate outputs to the various CV freq in's which have bipolar attenuators on them. Nice for psuedo random sequences.
For further fun, i like using the clock out to queue a adsr to control my model 13 dual timbral gate. I'll have to post a patch diagram later to show what im talkling about.

Anyways, the only real complaint i have about this module is its width.
15HP?!? WTF!! thanks for leaving me with an odd number!
Now i have a single width blank space in that rack that i just cant manage to fill up angry very frustrating d'oh!

I've been warming up to the idea of the Zorlon Cannon more and more. It seems to be the hardest Harvestman module to get? They seem to always sell out nearly instantly on AH.

It is on mine actually. It's not that the jacks stick out, it's that there's too little faceplate on the left, and too much on the right. It leaves a considerable gap between it and the neighboring module, and there's too much on the right for the neighboring module on the right...I have to skip a whole space to mount the neighboring module. The amount of excess on the right is exactly the amount missing on the left. I guess, if your module also has the boards protruding a bit on the left, it means the mounting holes on mine are a little too much to the left.

I'm positive this doesn't have anything to do with Scott's usual choice of odd HP widths.

sounds like the mounting holes are slightly askew.
the solution? a unibit! bore that front panel out yourself!

ah sorry felix, I totally have baby-brain and misread your question....

my module does NOT have the misalinged mounting holes that your has. seems like your faceplate must have been a little right-of-center when the holes were punched. Mine are nice and centered, however the PCB behind the faceplate protudes out just a tiny tiny bit on one side.

I think consumed had a good idea, why not bore those holes out just a bit.... should work!

good luck

I'm currently putting 25 of them together for shipment to AH hopefully next week. These are the first Harvestman modules to feature mainboards constructed by my brother... a few of them went to AH last week and I hear they're performing quite well.

Try FMing the lower half of the module with a clean sine, gets nice and disgusting

from mio bloggerino
Here's a nice demo patch I made last night, but was too lazy to record (that's why the picture above still has cables patched in). The Zorlon Cannon is of course the main sound source, the 4 outputs (4bit-switch down, 5bit and 9bit-switch up, 17bit-switch down) are going to a Doepfer A-151 Sequential Switch, the output of which goes to a Harvestman Polivoks modulated by a Dual Cyclotron and A-143-1, and finally through have of a Plan B M13 low pass gate, opened by an M10 EG. The Pitch for the Zorlon noise outputs comes from the Zorlon's pseudo random gates, being mixed by a Doepfer A-138c bipolar mixer. The Clock Out on the Zorlon is triggering the M10, whose End Of Cycle output triggers the A-151 sequential switch.

So basically what you are hearing is the pseudo random gates generating the pitch sequence, the various noise outputs being "selected" by the sequential switch, and finally filtered by the Polivoks and made "plucky" by the M13 + M10.

Logic's "Tape Delay" plugin, tweaked as much as I could stand it. The original patch was going through my moog MF-104, but it's currently setup in a way that is not easy to record the wet output from the MF-104, so I had to simulate it with Logic's plugin razz

I shouldn't have been lazy and just hooked up my UAD Xpander and used an RE-201 plug.

Thanks guys! More demos soon. The Zorlon is taking a quick trip back to the harvestland as Scott very graciously offered to sort out my weird faceplate issue.

Very likely, the Zorlon will be the next video demo.
