well the metalbox 8008 bass drum arrived! shit's a dream come true. anyway i'm kinda coming down with a formula and still learning my way around the Scale Quantizer Rom. It's like playing an instrument more than programming which I love love but it takes some skill.

the 8008 frees up a fair amount of modules i was using to make the modular drum thing happen and i'm getting much smarter with my patching. just trying to kut down on unnecessary patching as much as possible.

That sounded great! The whole track, not just the 8008.

werd. i've been working on variations since posting this. hell it's only been like 30 minutes or something. lol

here's an edit of what i just did. similar patch.. different evelope timing and using the Time Machine to kinda wack out the triggering of the EG.

--woops just realized i didn't mix this at all. hehe. oh well it's just a sample. once something truly good comes around i'll try to knock out another EP. i think you guys will pretty much be the only ones that hear anything from me before that happens.

i hate to get all argitothy, but could you post some samples of just the 8008? i'd like to hear the different ranges and decays it's capable of. i'm considering getting one myself.

yeah i'll do that but i'd really like it if you'd invite good ol argi over for tea in the meantime. you see he'd most likely appreciate it and you could teach him the difference between analog and cream cheese. hells cheah!!

And is it all discrete analog electronics? I'm having a quarter-life analog crisis.

Argitothy! I love that, shit, I would hate to find out my name had been turned into a catch-phrase like that. Hey I'm not sure, but is it possible that you used a kind of low compression ratio when you encoded your MP3's like maybe 128kbps? The sound files have a sort of gritty, raspy quality to them. I try to always encode them at the highest rate possible 320. I hope that doesn't come off Argi or anything. BTW, digging the way the opening bell tone keeps flipping timbre . How'd you do that?

I’ve just been using what’s onboard cool edit for mp3 conversion. It’s weak and it’s lame and I was linked to a proper freeware for higher quality conversion but I didn’t want one more piece of software on my comp. I’m gonna go ahead and hunt it down and dl it soon because it seems like people are consistently unhappy with the lower quality mp3’s and I can’t be mad at that. I’d be posting wavs if it was feasible.

As far as all the timbre changing all I can say is I had 3 VCO’s synced, the Noisering was driving the pitch which was quantized by the Mini Wave. The VCO’s were mixed together and fed into the Filthy Filter who’s frequency was being modulated by the 2nd output of the Noisering. I did do a little manual fine pitch adjusting here and there but not too much.

You may be able to adjust the KBPS rate within the Cool Edit app.
Maybe just check if there's a field for that, if possible set it to
320 KBPS and see if that makes a difference.

lol. it was way too simple. i just had to choose options when i was saving it. done deal. it's now reupped at 320 - same link

edit -- it's just this one -- http://www.kwotemusic.com/8thousand8.mp3 -- i didn't feel a need to up the quality of the other two as this was my favorite and ended up on my site, myspace, blog.
