Schroff Rails for a Eurorack Rast?
MUFF WIGGLER Forum Index -> Eurorack Modules
Author Schroff Rails for a Eurorack Rast?
Kodama
Apparently you can squeeze about 95hp out of a Rast if you screw the rails in directly. I'm trying to avoid a franken-rail solution of screwing rails together.

Are there any euro-compatible rails out there that 95hp or longer and have the screw bores going all the way through (so that they can be sawed to a custom length)?

Have you tried contacting Tip Top or Monorocket to see if they will cut some specifically to fit your length? I'm guessing they buy rails in bulk length and cut them down themselves. Monorocket's Lexington has 150hp per row, so you know they've got long rail. It's just a matter of seeing if they'll do it for you and how much it will cost.

I'm looking for 252hp rails, myself. help

It may be possible to bolt multiple z-rails together, but I don't want to be a guinea pig. I talked to gur about the possibility and his response was not "Oh, don't bother with that, I'll just cut to whatever length you need", so I don't think it is the case that they cut them themselves.

I was thinking of Shroff or another generic supplier. I saw that they offer a few rails that are longer (160hpish?), but have no idea as to what I am looking at and if it is compatible.

hmmm.....

Ok, so I think it's europacpro.

Do these look good?

http://web.schroff.de/catalogue/catalogue.do;jsessionid=A37AE8E59E24A0 B039B2C50E0688C065?upTree=0&OID=000000030001582d0001003a&favOid=000000 030001582d0001003a&act=showBookmark&forward=showProductDetails&lang=en &catId=DE

They are available in 1,000mm (84hp is 431mm).

I'm not sure if these act as vector rails, or if you have to install threaded (or perforated?) strips?

I guess you can ask Schneiders Buero for Proma / Gie Tec rails.

1000mm = 196HP
3000mm = 590HP. eek!

The ones you linked to are typically used to hold the rear PCB in a backplane setup. They don't have the "lip" on the edge. If that lip doesn't matter to you they are the cheaper ones. The ones typically used for the front surface are these:
<http://web.schroff.de/catalogue/catalogue.do;jsessionid=A37AE8E59E24A 0B039B2C50E0688C065?upTree=0&OID=00000000000188c10001003a&favOid=00000 000000188c10001003a&act=showBookmark&forward=showProductDetails&lang=e n&catId=DE>
They have a standard bunch of lengths: 20, 28, 40, 42, 63 and 84 HP
Remember most of the Schroff threaded rails are for 2.5mm screws too.

Gawd - Schroff has some nasty URLs!
I can't get your link to work, is it like this one?

Can anyone confirm that the rails that I linked to above are good for euro, and if they need some kind of strips for screws?

Also - where do you actually find Schroff stuff for sale?

Their site is not exactly click and pay...

hmmm.....

Hrmmm - Looks like these folks may be a USA distributor:

why dont you just order the tip top rails for $35??
dude
because they need to be like 95 hp

It might be easier to just saw a bit off the top and bottom planks to size. Table-saws usually aren’t hard to find.

Ahhh. What about MW $60 single row with rack ears and fill the gap with wood?

I'm talking outta my ass right now.
Jason Brock
I got a reply from Tip Top Audio. They'll sell you custom-length Z-Rails but only as a special order, minimum quantity of 50.
That's enough to populate 12 RAST racks. Maybe someone could make a buck re-selling them at a slight markup.

available at digikey usually too.

unless schroff or z-rails offer something that you prefer, like a lip.

Not sure if you've ever seen a rast in person but they're way deeper than the average eurorack case. I wouldn't go with one again if I was starting over for that reason.

Yeah, my MW case sits on top of a Rast and it's about half the depth. I can put my desktop Sherman Filterbank in front of it and still have enough room for cables.

Of course, you could always saw the Rast in half and make 2 Eurorack cases!

Isn't noise going to be an issue if your modules aren't inside a nice shielded faraday cage?

Dont have the time to do it myselve, but dont mind to pay for the trouble.

most have self-drilling screws, you can saw them to any length, no problem. Clicks & Clocks does custom lengths, but I guess it is just easier to buy 100cm and cut them as needed.
Also, i would go for M3 rails, some of the schroff are M2.5 screws, as notes above, this will create nothing but confusion.
