For those who havent been following my facebook threads i bought a Fender Jag bass and really wanted it to be blue, so i got some krylon and went to town...well that sucked so i stripped it down, got some primer and more krylon....well that sucked almost as bad so was going to get some automotive paint to do it again... My friend Nic from Catalinbread saw my failure posts and recommended http://www.ReRanch.com/ i ordered all the stuff to do it "right" in "sonic blue".

and about a week and a half later (today) i put her all back together (plus hipshot)

i used my cell phones camera so it really doesnt show how nice it turned out...but it came out waaay better than i expected it to

it was a super fun project, and i'm already going to do my 2nd jag bass inca silver with tort pickguard.

Awesome! I prefer either black or a natural finish myself, but that does look very nice This is fun! Would it be possible to upload a pic taken from a better camera?

The bass is the sex. I think it could definitely rock a antique white/cream pick guard if you can find one.

I'm kind of a sucker for anything Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Offset-waist shaped. Especially when they're fun colors. ESPECIALLY when they're fun colors with fun pickguards.

Damn, damn, damn, that's a sexy, sexy instrument. screaming goo yo screaming goo yo screaming goo yo

For fender types...
Sonic blue + tortoise guard = epic win

Looked at the date and had Vertigo...
Today is the 18th, not the 17th... what the hell

Anyway..
Awesome bass!

And agree with sonic blue / tortoise pick.

I also like the sunburnt with tortoise pic - hence the Jazzmaster behind me. I think jaguar/jazzmaster/mustangs generally look cooler and come in better color combos stock

Word! That came out great - that blue gets along really nice with the tort!

Reranch rocks. I stripped and sprayed this bass using their rattle cans. Its ocean turquoise nitro (was going for an aged pelham blue vibe...)

A buddy of mine here is spraying a bass with that duplicolor stuff you find at the auto stores, and he's having a hell of a time with it. I don't know if the rattle cans are just cheap/crappy, or what... but the results so far are nothing like Reranch. I've seen some folks pull off nice jobs with duplicolor, krylon, etc... and I now have a new appreciation for their skills!

Another source for nitro in a can (or quart) is http://www.towerpaint.com/. They can mix up the more esoteric colors. Almost did that bass above in inverness green, but figured I'd stick with Reranch end-to-end so as not to complicate things on my first time out...

Look forward to seeing the silver one too! Guinness ftw!

(EDIT: doh! d'oh! just saw this is a zombie thread hihi )

Thanks! The bass models were the Thunderbirds, and they did 'em non-reverse flavor in the mid to late 60s. Technically, that one is a parts bass.

And by parts bass, I mean shameless clone made from exact measurements and tracings of an original, with a mixture of NOS Gibson and repro parts on on it Mr. Green I love it, though, and its something I can play out in those finer establishments without sweating bullets.

...and now back to our regularly scheduled year old news! I think I missed this thread originally because I was busy refinishing that bass around the same time. You're getting essentially two zombie topics for the price of one! SlayerBadger!
