That's no moon. It's a space station.

that is a total mind melter..

The Drake Equation!
SETI!

yes, your dad is quite well known indeed.

I am totally intrigued by Cosmology and Cosmonogy. Sort of a part time hobby although I have only a layman's grasp on it all.

I'm a big fan of Lawrence Krauss:

The anti-religion polemic notwithstanding, he makes some amazing points about our current understanding of the universe.

I'd love a telescope but it's sort of a fruitless endeavour in the city.

I told my dad about my synth and it being all DIY and all that, and about how he got me started with teaching me how to solder and all that, which is true, but he denied it all. Said I had snuck around in the basement figuring out all this stuff by burning stuff up and breaking his tools mostly. Which is also true. He still wants his drill back. (BTW, I actually did use his old drill for tons of my diy stuff - I only finally replaced it a few months ago)

Carl Sagan was around the house a lot. Too many stories. Us kids got sent downstairs a lot so they could get drunk and carry on. At one point I babysat Alexander, Carl's son a few times. I was offered Carl's Porsche 914 (with license plate "PHOBOS") to buy when I was buying my first car, but for some stupid reason I didn't.

I actually did make a stab at learning some in depth astronomy stuff, and took a summer course at Cornell with one of my dad's grad students, but the math was beyond me, and I didn't make it through. I've always regretted that.

"Where is everybody"....isn't that the Fermi Paradox? Any species around for even a little while should be able to produce (non-absolutist) Neumann probes that could reasonably cross the Galaxy, and if even a few species did this, we would eventually see the results?
