I bought myself a Wiard Anti Oscillator a while back, and having some problems with it. *Every* knob alters the outgoing frequency (not only the fine & course knobs) of the outgoing signal, and i assume this is not intended behaviour. Does anyone know of this problem and what to do about it?

I'm not sure about the wave shape and env knobs, but the exp & lin fm knobs certainly affect the frequency when turned with nothing plugged. This is normal behaviour.

Hmmm...then how do you work with it, if turning a single knob causes it to detune?

the knobs are normaled to apply internal feedback to create a broader palette of sounds without using other modules. when you patch into them it breaks that normalization to respond to cv and the knobs act as cv attenuators.

the lin fm knob and exp fm knob would normally do nothing without cv. so to answer your question you just wouldn't turn those knobs without anything plugged in, because on a standard VCO design turning those knobs without having anything plugged in would do nothing at all so you wouldn't have need to turn them.

if you want to use the internal FM normalisations then tune *after* those have been set.

feeding an oscillator back into itself always alters frequency, but also always destroys the tracking at the expo 12v/oct input - though often the coolest waveforms are created this way....a catch22.

sometimes, if i find i'm quite liking the tone i get through oscillator feedback, i use an analog sequencer or fixed voltage "keyboard" ala Pressure Points as the controller so i can dial in a melody with worrying about 12/v oct skewing due to feedback.

on the anti the internal feedback is nice, 'cause its right there for you. but in truth, you may want to put a VCA into the feedback or something else....so it's not super necessary to have internal....but then again, it's always nice to add a little internal on one FM and some extrnal on the another. it's a fun module.

saves a patch cord or two, i guess.
