Thanks. I often feel bad when someone compliments me on my setup, because I didn't really do anything other than spend money and wait. Bob and Roger and Margo and Eric and Phil and Doug and a whole host of other people dreamed up, designed, built, tested, and shipped me the components.

I just wrote the cheques.

There's a lot of folks who do much greater things with far, far smaller systems. They, and the manufacturers, are the ones who deserve the real compliments.

I was wondering about the triple triple controllers and I can see now that they are M-Audio controllers in custom (?) enclosures. Are they controlling soft synths, a rack of hard synths or??

And are those folks making the modular documentary including you? thumbs up

no i,m not involved in the documentary. The keyboards all control soft synths and my orchestral samples. THe cases where custom built. I have ten M-audio keyboards. 9xM49 and 1x61. The black keyboard is the only poly after touch i could find. It's a GEM s2 Turbo. I just use it to control the arturia CS80......which is the best sounding soft synth i think.....but keeps crashing.!!!!!!!

You certainly should be included Ed, as I think you are testament to the fact that modulars are not just the domain of the bedroom bleep and bloop brigade. Not that they are per se, but this is a common preconception from many. The only issue I have with a film of this sort is that it's probably just preaching to the converted! Will this get airtime on terrestrial TV???
I was so dissapointed with Hans Fjellestad's documentary on Moog, for me it missed the point musically for me. I realise everyone has their own perceptions of what makes something, but I thought the bias of content was off and I found it alienating. I hope that this new modular doc manages to cover a bit more ground and not try too hard to be clever or trendy.

I think it's easy to slip into the seductive fetishism of kit such as this, but whilst this system is obviously a passion of yours you are not tied to the museum mentality and aren't afraid of some shiny new modules nestling with your original 900 series modules! This is a living, breathing creative music making instrument...
Of course the acheivement of recreating an aspiration from the formative years in your life is no doubt an emotional boost to your creativity too!
Now, where did I put that winning lottery ticket....? d'oh!

+1 for the CS-80 it seems to gel really well with the modular sound (well the sounds I make with my modular anyway)

here's the current mess. not pictured is the roadcase for transporting the modular, which fits them side-by-side with a piece of foam in between. it's a really beautiful case.

this is where it was set up at the last party i played:

three cases are left to do: the two keyboard stations and a trunk for stool, stands, and pedalboards. i'll probably also commission a merchandise case. and probably a new shock rack at some point since the whole two piece design was from before i knew i _had_ to have a trailer.

i'm also going to add two more 25 note controllers, in between the two keyboard stations and to the right of The Hot Mix Five (drum machine/juno/x0xb0x case, named after the chicago house DJs.) the additional controllers will allow me to transpose the modular from any location in the rig without strain.

also this week i pick up my new trailer. i had to rent one for the last gig and that was really crappy. (pics here if you hadn't seen them already since i'm a social networking whore: http://suitandtieguy.com/sights/karmaclysm_2011/)

Wow, Eric, looking at the other pics, what would you have done if it had rained? I love the coordinated road cases for your gear. It's a totally sweet looking load.

If you are designing/buying your own trailer, I strongly suggest you make some provision for bracing your cases on all sides (top included). Imagine having an accident with nothing but 1/4" birch ply or melamine walls between those heavy cases and the great outdoors. Adding a steel bar from front to back on the sides would keep a lot of weight off the side walls. Then you could brace the cases on top with some heavy tension straps to keep everything tidy and secure.

I say this from my experience with pulling cargo trailers, which certainly falls into the everything that can go wrong will go wrong category. It does not take much to flip a relatively light two-wheeled vehicle attached to your car or truck with a little ball, for example. Best to plan for such things with such valuable cargo at stake.

I was playing one (again) yesterday and my girlfriend asked when I'd be doing stuff as good. grin

I told her I'd need some sequencers, and she implied that she'd never ask again. sad banana

STG - fantastic setup, and outdoors too! Quite a big rack setup too. Gonna listen when I'm back home. What is the Moog keyboard, btw?
