Its really good fun to play. I have never really found a great sounding virtual synth that can touch our beloved analog gear but this has potential and @99c it really is worth a play.

Shit. I'm considering buying it and I don't even have an iPad, only an iPod Touch, but plan to get an iPad sometime next year.

I do have Filtatron and nanoloop, which are great, and Reactable (which sucks on the iPod).

I am really digging this app. Sounds great, looks great and you can't beat the price! Looking forward to integrating it with my modular!

For decades, everyone has been bemoaning the fact that no 'digital' synth can sound like a Moog and that all the 'Digital' stuff is shit. Then Moog releases a Digital thing and the world fawns over it like foaming fanboys raving about how wonderful and Moogy it is. I don't get it.
And I sure as hell am not going to buy some Apple product to use it. Port it to Android or my PC (Nice big touch screen) and I'll try it.

well, it's kinda pointless to try and be too critical about a synth that costs less than a cup off coffee.

That's because the whole analog vs digital debate is complete bullshit made up by people with 'golden ears'. Some synths sound good. Some synths don't. It doesn't matter if they're analog or digital. w00t

animoog is the best sounding, expressive app i've played yet. very well thoughtout - glad moog is taking apps seriously.

best demo i could find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH5M0ap5PV8

a few weeks ago i started bringing my ipad into jam sessions - in addition to the filtatron i've been digging on the strangeagency apps (curtis and cp1919) as well as jasuto pro and specsynth. been running the ipad through my effects chain (moog/snazzy/midfi etc.) with great creative results. still workin on consistently "warming" the sound up (i realize warmth is subjective). open to any suggestions (already goin through a marshall jmp for tube goodness)

Such vitriol. iOS is the superior music platform. Period.i wouldn't care if burger king made this app, and it ran on a touchscreen cheeseburger powered by courier. it's a brilliant product. Unbelievablely playable and expressive. People care because it's moog, simply because moog is synonymous with analog and synthesis. If they're excited it's hard to dismiss their efforts. Just like the muff massive goes bananas over a makenoise oscillator they've never seen, we can't help but get excited when something new and interesting comes out. For real, try it. It's what electric sheep dream of....

So easy to hate on this thing for a million reasons.. but they're trying, and their effort comes through a lot, and I'm into that. Lots of little nice touches all over the place.

Also, has anyone else noticed the Serge Wavemult / TKB samples in this thing?

Obviously this isn't meant to replace your modular or an analog synth, it is very entertaining and as others and I have said one of the better sounding apps out there. It's great to have something that is easily portable, sitting in bed messing around with it is great. Kudos to moog for making it affordable and actually putting some thought into it. I like how they have incorporate velocity into it.

One never knows where a company will find their source of inspiration. hihi

At least the folks at Moog Music had the decency to name-check Serge in the sample file names.

That said, the Animoo(g) name is almost taking things too far. Too bad they couldn't be more up front about the origin of the name on their product page.

your post is where I see the vitriol.

You say that IOS is "the superior music platform". I'm not sure that I've ever heard anything that idiotic. It is a better 'platform' than my serge, for instance?

In what way is it superior - the potential of the touch interface? Swell. I thought that all of the synths on the ipad 1 when I tried it sounded like crap, though there were interfaces that showed some promise. And now, Moog, a company that has made only analog synths until now, and (as far as I know) not really any adventurous ones, suddenly has made the mother of all digital synths? Forgive me if I yawn at this hyperbole.

I'll wait until the ipad 4, and Steve Jobs is resurrected, and maybe I'll try an ipad again, but I just have to laugh at this bullshit.

Ah, Nelson. Your dulcet tones are always welcome. I'm not sure how vitriolic I can be in a post about touchscreen cheeseburgers. hmmm..... I regards to the post I was referring to, it seems odd to dismiss a product based on its platform and not on it's own virtues. The tablet market is either iOS or android for now. When serge enters that market we will see how they compete, but vs. android, iOS is vastly superior on audio integration. This is not a platform debate, if this app was running on my magical touchscreen cheeseburger it would still be a great app. the fact is, a touchscreen computer in a 9.7 inch screen factor is a relatively new invention. So making the mother of all digital synths on a tablet that has only existed for two years is not really hyperbole. In the early years of any technology, the envelope of what is possible is constantly pushed. So for a two year old platform, this is remarkably polished.
