| If they make a hardware unit based on this I'd be hard-pressed not to buy it since I'm sure it would have an enormous amount of presets + user memory + easy editing of the envs/lfos/filters....... |

Anyone have the iRig midi adapter and tried sequencing Animoog? I bet that would be pretty awesome.. _________________ its like saying you experience michaelangelo because there is a picture on your happy meal

| Picked up an ipad for development work and grabbed this last night. It really sounds great. I'm actually shocked how well it sounds. The might be my new go to synth for pads as soon as I can get midi over wifi working. |

This thing is really impressing.
Applying small doses of modulation to the waveform morphing reminds me a lot of my E350.
Amazing stuff!

I put a bunch of Animoog Demos up on Soundcloud a few weeks ago--

It's pretty damned expressive. VERY ballsy through an Alesis iO dock. |

I have the line 6 midi adapter (the core midi 2nd gen) coming in a day or two and plan on doing exaclty that. I've been running the ipad though my modular as well via the A-119. Sounds pretty good to me! |

Android's current audio subsystem is lacking realtime kernel priority, so latency tends to be unusable for most 'real' audio apps. They are working on it, but doubt it will hit production for at least 6-12 months. Even when it's done, it will much more tedious to develop for than CoreAudio.
Totally not bashing Android, just sayin... |

I've been using Android since the G1, I can't wait for ICS on my Nexus S, I think Cyanogen and the rest of the CyanogenMod team are some of the coolest hackers on the planet, and I'm glad Apple finally switched away from interruptive notifications in iOS but their implementation still can't touch the Android notification bar. To wit, I really like Android.
Having said all that, iOS is the platform for touchscreen music apps right now and for the foreseeable future. There's just no way around it.
It's not just about latency (which is a serious issue on its own). There's nothing like CoreMIDI on Android. It just doesn't exist. Most Android hardware won't do USB host mode (translation: there's no way to connect external MIDI devices). Android 3.1 was the first build with any native USB host mode support anyway, and most Android devices released to date will never be updated to Android 3+. Peter Brinkmann has had more luck with MIDI over Bluetooth, but it's slow going. Then there's the general reality of Android that developers who are willing to roll their own implementations have to attempt to support hundreds of devices from over a dozen major manufacturers spanning several OS versions. And this is just my personal opinion, but Eclipse is a miserable IDE.
In short, if you prefer Android or are disinclined to use Apple devices for whatever reason, and you're waiting for Android to "just catch up" with iOS in this regard, it's gonna be a while. |

I've been using Animoog for a while now continue to find new depth in the program. And there are few better ways to kill a long plane ride.

Just got this app last night and I am blown away.
So many possibilities, and the sound quality is amazing. It's even more fun running it through the modular.
My only gripe is the lack of midi out, hopefully that gets implemented in an update. |

Interesting. It's a shame that this is the way it is. My wife got me a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for our anniversary and I was really hoping that there would be some cool music apps available.
At least there's a not-awful TouchOSC app available. |

Fortunately Android isn't completely devoid of interesting music apps, check out nanoloop and NodeBeat.
For controllers, Control is a nice alternative to TouchOSC that lets you manipulate the interface with Max/Puredata patches. The design of TouchDAW looks nice, though I haven't used it myself. |

You can sequence into it from Step Poly Arp...It glitches when you switch back and forth between the apps, but once you are in one or the other it works pretty smoothly. Kinda slick. |

There is an iphone version now for 99 cents (intro price). I don't know what's different between iphone version and ipad version if anything. Other than that it's, you know, smaller. _________________ http://wwww.speakonion.com for drum'n'noise

I downloaded the iPhone version immediately on release. Don't have an iPad so I can't compare the two, but it's definitely quite fun on the iPhone and by far the most fully-featured synth I've encountered for it. I do get the impression the larger size of the iPad would be an advantage, but this will probably replace jet pack joyride for me when it comes to sitting around in airports or whatever. Great fun! _________________ http://vortexranger.muffwiggler.com
