It might be time to start a 5U system.

How far does that top tube stick out?

2.25"

Do the LEDs just represent switch state?

They don't serve any purpose other than to glare lol They are always on regardless of the switch settings.

What does the CV control?

Quote:

back on topic, is this a filter?

No it is a rebellion against filters. There are enough filters in 5Uland....

Quote:
A standalone version would be great for any non 5U users

Get some QCR8's hihi

Quote:
Now What the Fuck am I going to sell around here to raise $600?!?!?!

lol seriously, i just don't get it Rasta-nana

Quote:
Is this 2u-DotCom width???

Yes w00t

Quote:
How much is the current draw from the modular power supply portion??

I need to measure it.
I burn them in and test them 3 at a time on a QPS1.(1.5 amp supply)
And In the case right now there are 2 berserkers, an R54, R52, R51 plus some other solid state modules and it runs fine on a power one 3 amp supply.

Best to count on having a power supply capable of providing 1.5 amps, 3 amps would be better.

I'm building a modular mixing console. This is one piece of the puzzle.

Since it wasn't demonstrated earlier, this is what the envelope follower does to an R54:
Guitar>Berserker>R54>R51

Still in business.
This circuit was engineered by Eric. I told him what I wanted and he showed me how. Eric will receive royalty payments for this module. That is where it stops. Obviously he wants these to sell because he gets money for it, but he has stated in 8 different ways that he wants me to make it clear that he has NOTHING to do with this at all other than what was stated:
He designed it
He is getting paid
He is NOT building it or selling it or supporting it and doesn't want anything to do with it.

The same will go for future modules.

Back on the topic of the Berserker

It was important for me to build this to the highest quality I could come up with.
I hunted down the highest quality 6AK5's, or known as 5654's, which is the military version of the tube.
I bought the last GE Five Star 5654's Antique Electronic Supply had in stock.(Five Star=less noise, less microphonics)
AES has more in stock from high quality other brands to pick from, so do others that sell NOS tubes.
6AK5/54654's don't cost much, easy to find, and were high enough quality for Military radios, that's a good tube for a modular synthesizer/musical instrument.
I'm currently seeking out some RCA Command Series 5654's and other RCA military series.
Tubes made 1950's through late 1960's are the years you want to look for. Especially for RCA's.
The 6BN6/6KS6's I use were made by GE. Very easy to find, New Old Stock, large quantities available from sellers of NOS tubes.
6BN6/6KS6 data sheet

NOS tube sockets. Not cheap, these are INDUSTRIAL strength.
New Xicon transformer from mouser. Not a used pull from a surplus lot.
New Jameco Wall Wart power transformer. These are easy to get and work for years.
Alpha pots.
Neutrik/Rean jacks.

There isn't anything obscure or difficult to service, or find.
This is a limited quantity item, sales and support will still be available through me after they are sold out.
I have other modules in the works, I'm not going anywhere, 5U is about to get ugly.... and beautiful woah

The name comes from monsters destroying humans and then starting over and rebuilding.

Yeah, Clive Barker: I even have the book somewhere! Great movie, shows that the humans are the real monsters. Great name for a module!

But i guess the roots of the berserkers are to find in a lot of old scandinavian sagas, where the berserkers are warriors!

hmmm..... i remember berserkers as 1970s dungeons & dragons "monsters" (and seem to recall they were magically altered humans who always fought to the death without regard to pain or fatigue, and characteristically howled and foamed at the mouth whilst doing so).

a-and d&d got the notion from norse mythology, i suspect... (so "berserking" goes way, way further back than the the 1990s lol).

can this be ordered/built with motm/modcan power connectors, btw?

cheers,

thumbs up awesome wikipedia article (one of its best)!

highlights include:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berserker wrote:

The earliest surviving reference to the term "berserker" is in Haraldskvæði, a skaldic poem composed by Thórbiörn Hornklofi in the late 9th century in honour of King Harald Fairhair, as ulfheðnar ("men clad in wolf skins"). This translation from the Haraldskvæði saga describes Harald's berserkers:

I'll ask of the berserks, you tasters of blood,

Those intrepid heroes, how are they treated,
Those who wade out into battle?
Wolf-skinned they are called. In battle
They bear bloody shields.
Red with blood are their spears when they come to fight.
They form a closed group.
The prince in his wisdom puts trust in such men
Who hack through enemy shields!

and, towards the end of the article...

wrote:

The word "berserker" today applies to anyone who fights with reckless abandon and disregard to even his own life, a concept used during the Vietnam War and in Vietnam-inspired literature (Michael Herr's Dispatches) and film (Oliver Stone's Platoon and Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder). "Going berserk" in this context refers to an overdose of adrenaline-induced opioids in the human body and brain leading a soldier to fight with fearless rage and indifference, a state strikingly similar to that of the 9th century berserkers...

hmmm..... i think i may need to watch the film 'jacob's ladder' once more, the night that the berserker modules arrive!! zombietwisted

cheers,
7n7

ps - a-and ha, i see the power supply is external, so need for special ordering connectors!! w00t

NO.
You need to have a modular power supply AND a wall wart to use the Berserker.
The Agonizer doesn't require a modular power supply, just wall wart.

The Berserker got the official thumbs up from C.X. Kidtronix and Saul Williams. Seriously it's one of the most nasty ass growling oscillators I have used right up there next to the Wretch in my opinion. Sooooo happy with this module it truly is a beast!
