Haha, Ninja brought the pink Floyd shorts back in that first video. For some weird reason I really dig them and have since the first video started circulating.
Agreed though that the last part with DJ HiTech is just not good. I agree with Ignatious about it just not being done right.
Also, why the fuck am I so fascinated with Yolandi. It makes me feel dirty in an inbred whitetrash kind of way. _________________ Audio resistance to perceived fascist tendencies

their previous stuff was way better. faggot just strikes me as an attempt at being gangsta and not doing anything out of the ordinary to somehow make that interesting. a failed irony or parody or, worse, a simply failed attempt.
I do enjoy their other stuff, though. rich bitch and that song about african tribal penis cutting rituals or whatever are my two favourites. |

don't really get the connect with Earl Sweatshirt at all, that stuff is (to my ears) badly produced back-packer ish whereas Die Antwoord is polished futurista pop. |
i thought it was relevant due the lyrical content/style of the end of the Die Antword track and how to pull off that kind of thing.. since i think the earl track nails it. but yes.. they are totally different. the Earl stuff and crew is hip hop plain and simple. Die Antword is more pop but i don't see how Die Antword could possibly not be 'different' whatever they do.

Yolandi is a hottie. period. i think the whole sexual stereotype confusion is awesome. its just one step closer to people not being hung up on that kind of shit.. even if it is just in a small way. _________________ LABEL TWITTER FACEBOOOK SAMPLE LIBRARY

I know. The letterman thing was weird, but it gave me hope for all the happy mutants out there. _________________ www.joylessrapture.tumblr.com |

DJ Hi-Teks lyrics at the end are taken from Mike Tyson:

Love this band like most of you. Did not hear the first record, but grabbed the new one and have it on repeat.
I really like the explanation of their usage of the word 'faggot' - I'm not gay and I refrain from using that word in any context. It's cool to hear that DJ Hi-Tek took the word and removed any negative connotation from it. It's nice to hear that some thought goes into each use instead of saying it just to say it.
Truly respect these guys. Their major told them to change and they said fuck it. These guys deserve every bit of success they've got.
Also, this track fucking rules. Production is solid to say the least.

I'm not a fan of their music, but I still think that they're one of the weirdest/coolest groups active in todays music scene.

This was my introduction to them. I found it by accident while trying to browse YouTube one night while coming down from a freakish synthetic tryptamine. It was quite a WTF moment:
+1 the love of weirdness. There are the banal bits at times, and Yo-Landi's softer than soft style is way unctuous. When it all comes together though, they inspire hope in pop music, which for me is quite rare. |

Yeah well. I've watched a fair few of their videos now, including the Harmony Korine one (and I'm generally a fan of his stuff). But I can't shake the feeling it's all engineered bullshit. Like there's someone behind the scenes pulling the strings, hoping they're going to end up with a new Lady Gaga on their hands.
The music itself doesn't seem all that innovative despite the weird touches. There seems to be a lot of standard gangsta rap shit there - that's ok if it's your bag, but it's hardly new.
This may be just prejudice. If instead of Afrikaner accents they had a broad Aussie twang they would be indistinguishable from the bogans that hang out at the shop down the road from me... and the area shown in that Harmony Korine video could well be around here as well.
And maybe they're genuine - the "Evil Boy" stuff touches a nerve with me, it's a valid message. Kind of banging you over the head with it, but that's what it takes to get through to a lot of people, hey. Jury's out for me for the time being though.
Cheers
