I'm building up a couple of the J.H. Living VCOs. I found these precision pots on Ebay - seems like an OK deal:

oh yeah.... forgot, i'd be into a group buy of some decent 1/8 jacks & plugs.
also, possibly some fancy-ass knobs that are pricey when a small amount are bought. maybe something like those used by Livewire or Modcan.

i did a search on vernier dials after i read chromium's reply & noticed some interesting knobs & dials on a site.... but they weren't cheap.

I need some jacks as well, don't need a group buy but I need to source some of the 1/8" jacks, either the ones used on the PB or the style like on the livewire or makenoise stuff. Just no cliff jacks.

Making some mults and a breakout box for volta.

@ bar|none: The PB jacks are Mouser "Kobiconn" (their house brand) 16PJ137. They are nicely priced:
1: $0.29
10: $0.23
100: $0.20
500: $0.19

There is another jack that I forgot to mention in the other thread: PJ301B. It even has the shouldered pins paults! wink

I found a manufacturer that will make these with a metal M6 bushing. I like these, but I can't use them on the PB because they are too wide. :(

And this is the other jack they are looking at making for me: PJ301MXX.

The Kobiconns are phenomenal quality for the price. These are the ones that have an extra coil spring that keeps pressure on the tip leaf spring. I use them on all my modules, as do several other manufacturers (actually, most of the boutique euro manufacturers that PCB mount their pots, as well as some others).

Do you have a link to the jacks that you use?

Sounds like those jacks are the Swiitchcraft 142A, or a clone thereof - especially since they're only CA$1.10! They are almost USD$5.00 through Mouser. The 142A is 0.141" - neither 3.5mm or 1/8".

Plugs: I have always liked these Kobiconn plugs, here's the datasheet.
But I'm now finding that the knurling isn't deep enough for a good grip, so I'm looking for something else. I prefer metal-bodied plugs because they have a really small diameter body and I hate plastic. razz

Strangely enough, it is also the only one I have ever found, and I have been searching for years. Eagle plastics is another Mouser house brand, and they have it custom made. It requires a little modification to actually work (the blades that fit in the slots in the nut are too wide & have to be filed down), but it is the only one out there, seriously. I've even asked a number of jack manufacturers (that sell jacks with these nuts) and they don't know of any.

You can overtighten the knurled nuts and deform the bushing though, I've had it happen a couple times now, but that's out of over 4000 jacks so I'd call that an acceptable failure rate.

Interesting note on the Switchcraft 142A:

I just received an email from the local distributor. It appears that Switchcraft has been working on my request to adapt the 142A as a 3.5mm jack and I should have the first samples in early June. eek!

They seem ideal for the Living VCO's and it may be worth dropping him a mail, I got the impression he had loads!

He's totally recommended too, when I opened my parcel I thought he'd sent me someone else's order by mistake, as it had lots of other parts (trimpots and polystyrene caps etc) I contacted him about it and he said they were freebies - pretty cool! cool

I've been a rather large fan ( no laughter from those who have met me ) of the Neutrik NYS226 plugs. Allied seems to have the best price on them and keeps them in stock. All metal, easy to terminate RG174 into. They are, well, very solid feeling.

Hey flight, I just posted in the DIY thread regarding sourcing some mono sockets for my Klee. I then remebered I had your choices barebones still packed up to be built oops

so I whipped one of the white sockets out and they are long enough to poke through the 3mm klee panel. Can I ask where you got them as I need some of those quickly.

Are they these by any chance ?

They lied. They didn't even change the bushing, and the screwy switch they use doesn't work with 3.5mm plugs so they would require a massive tooling fee and minimum yearly order. razz
