OK so heres the hardware:

Lexicon audio interface with 8 indivdual channels:

New Sony All in one computer, good specs:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+L+Series+All-In-One+Computer+/ +Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor/4002005.p?id=12184499 99057&skuId=4002005&st=sony%20all%20in%20one&cp=1&lp=3

I bought this computer a couple of days ago. The only thing that has been installed onto the computer is the audio driver and the trial edition of cubase that came with the interface. All setting are default settings. When I record 1-4 tracks i can usually keep it going forever, but when i ask the computer to record all 8 tracks at once, it usually crashes within a minute. Are there processing settings that i need to change to optimize the whole process? I really dont much about recording and computers. Should i just go ahead and return this computer and get a mac? Thanks for the help.

I adjusted the latency tot he lowest possible settings, thats seems to have done the trick. Any other settings that can be changed to optimize everything?

Short rant (skippable): I still have a Vaio FZ31 Notebook and that piece of shit's battery crapped out a week after the guarantee expired. Also, it was plagued by noise stemming from the power supply. Ghastly.

The devil with Vaios is in the details that come out when you start pushing them beyond consumer limits or simply have them for a longer time. I'd either have a dedicated Microsoft based audio workstation build or simply get a Mac.

If you decide to keep it, uninstall the bloatware Vaios usually ship with. That should speed up the computer.
