IIRC the term bass music was first used for Miami Bass, and those early dubstep and UK Funky artists will cite miami bass as being an influence. Any sort of broken beat with an 808 kick with long decay is bass music  |

that's different though. the term bass music these days has nothing to do with 808 long decay bass kicks anymore. that was the early 90's now it's more about super low frequency sine-like sub-bass synched with other mid range sounds that sometimes sounds compressed. or at least that's how I understand it. it's more like disco on steroids, mixed with hip-hop style production like Daft Punk/Justice/etc. with a touch of dubstep/dnb, and even hints of techno. it's almost like a frankenstein of all club music production styles since the 90's up to today.
I guess it's still sort of historically a continuation of hip-hop/R&B in the mid-late 90's when they started to mix bass and mid-range tones with regular kicks to beef up the sound to give it that thickness. |

"umm... i can't believe i won.. i mean i made the song in 5 mins with headphones.. i was pretty hardcore at the time living in a warehouse space... did i forget to mention i got street cred!?" 
Talk about a socially awkward bedroom producer trying to be cool. I think if he'd cut his hair and just be more of himself rather than trying to front a cool factor i could tolerate him more. To think... this is the guy who has been chosen to represent "electronic music".   What no props to Scorn!? wtf.. u make reference to those who started it in 2003.. 1992 man! 1992!

why do you guys always talk about Scorn? makes zero sense, actually makes as much sense as saying this emo-electro stuff is garage.
this guy is the perfect poster boy for this music in the US because he is as far from Ron Hardy or Larry Levan as you can get. . . he makes Arthur Russell look sooper ghetto. |

I'm now officially declaring myself old. This dude won a grammy for Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites? All I can say is: wow.
I never understood how older generations ripped on current music when I was growing up but I totally get it now.
Bass music? Where the fuck's the bass? Get off my lawn.

"Bass Music" sounds like it's meant for  ! when i read this term, you see, my mind wants it to be the verson of "bass" that rhymes with "ass" (instead of "ace").

No, it's another reason not to label things unless you know what you're talking about.
Genre's are meant to help people find music according to categories they're familiar with and enjoy; people's taste in music often doesn't encompass every gamut of the music industry, and when someone wants to hear a dubwise track the last thing the want to hear is some random shit that could of been labelled properly if the poster had any concern or respect for their readers.

Do your research... Scorn was like the godfather of the wubwub bass sound. Which is where dubstep basically came from.. I brought it up because Skrillex made reverence to electronic dub (Scorn obviously isn't he first to do dub) but he was making reference to early dub step sound. And if you really want to get technical the early dub step sound came from Scorn. Clearly you must have a different opinion than me.. oh well.

Slimzee & Geeneus have more to do with Skrillex winning a grammy than Scorn does (whoever he is) shit, if he is shouting anyone out it should be XL8R, but he is repping Dub Police - now that does make perfect sense.
I had this argument back in 2006 & the facts remain the same, Scorn has nothing to do with House & Garage music.
