Hi,
Just asking a second before pushing the "send money" button ? It was built 6 monthes ago.
I can't really loose this amount of money or the module. Please reassure me.
Thanks

If some people don't know Actually RHOS are some 2 years old rules about electronics products.
They must be free of"lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-brominated biphenylselectroni" products.
http://www.rohs.eu/english/index.html
Gear that contains such products won't pass customs, so my inital question. |

curious how they would even check this. wouldnt a rohs compliant sticker on the module or box convince your average customs workers that it was passable? granted you wouldnt want to get caught doing this but what are the chances of them actually checking? _________________ Lance |

Who knows, that's the problem. I can't afford playing this lottery.
If they check the parcel and don't find an official certificate for a line of products being ROHS compliant, it can be destructed, at your cost of course.
For a single product they willl not start analysis but we do have few official certification institutions that can do it.
258v is kind of a DIY, or at least, unofficial thing, so my worry.
May be Mark Verbos is or was aware of these rules, i don't know.
We do not not have Switzerland's custom workers reputation yet
but they can be picky in France too, i guess a sticker won't fool them for a long time. |

Lyonel has had at least 5 Verbos modules imported to France without issue. _________________ Kent: Putting the 'ass' in "World Class"

As I understand it, the onus is on the importer, not the manufacturer. As you would be the importer in this case, it's up to you to ensure that the product is fit for your clients. As long as that client is you, I don't think that it's an issue.
The ROHS stuff is silly, and I say this as something of an environmentalist. I don't believe it is helping anything, and may well be doing more damage than anything. This article is interesting, and has some good "tin whisker" shots too: http://www.edn.com/article/462284-Roll_back_the_lead_free_initiative_1 2_ROHS_myths.php _________________ Chris Muir

I went through RoHs in great detail a while back - including to follow the exception being requested by a church organ company.
My understanding is that parts/ replacements are exempt - therefore a module is a part and not covered.
I don't think UK customs would be worried - I've had a fair amount of stuff from the US with no issues.
I think this was originally aimed at truck loads of consumer electronics coming in. _________________ a bunch of stuff
