this is the manual i pieced together for myself.

The Stillson Hammer:

Euro-rack Format Burst generator with six outputs. A manual button press (or external gate input) will start a "burst" of repeated gate events coming out of a selected range of outputs. Burst frequency (time between gate outputs), output span (from 1 to 6 outputs), and event count are all voltage controllable. The pattern of output transition is also selectable: normal forward sequential travel, pendulum (forward, then backward), and random patterns are available.

There is also a bonus "threshold" mode that lights up a range of gate outputs in response to the magnitude of the main CV input.

6 gate outputs
Master clock output
Burst length: 1-32 events

+/-12V Doepfer-style power connector
Stillson Hammer Panel size: 13HP

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------
Some notes on using the stillson hammer:

When you push the TRIG button (or put a gate in right under it), the module will generate X gate events spread across Y outputs at Z frequency. X corresponds to Event Count, Y corresponds to Output Span, and Z is the top frequency knob. The yellow LEDs on the left indicate the pattern that the outputs will light up. FWD means the burst starts at output 1 and goes up to the maximum set by the Span control, then restarts at 1. PEND means it starts at one, goes up to the maximum, and then goes back down. RAND means that a random output will light up on every clock cycle, constrained by the span control. The CLK jack puts out a clock pulse for every output event.

The button on the right controls the operating mode. TRIG mode works as described above. THRESH works like a hex comparator, where the sum of the manual frequency knob and its CV input control how many of the outputs light up.

Alternate output mode: Hold down the FWD/PEND/RAND button for 2 seconds. The LEDs should invert. This changes the output behavior, where an output will stay lit even when the next output comes on. Random mode will also light up more than one output at a time. In Thresh mode, the behavior changes so that only one output lights at a time.

The jack in the middle below the trig button also initiates bursts. The timebase does not sync to an external input. The "clock" jack is a clock output.

Stillson Hammer now has a third operating mode: sync to external clock input.

To use the clock sync mode: Push the right button until both of its LEDs turn off. Turn the top frequency all the way down and its attenuator up. Plug your external clock signal into its CV input. Plug your start signal into the trig jack, or just push the trig button. Bursts will now follow the timing of pulses coming in on the CV jack. The duty cycle of the outputs also follows that of the input, so you can even PWM your burst outputs (square signals recommended over ramps)

To sync to an external clock, push the right button until both LEDs below it turn off. Turn the big frequency knob all the way down, and the nearby attenuator all the way up. Plug your clock signal into the CV frequency jack. The module will now start when a TRIG signal is received and clocks are present in the frequency jack.

Make sure your external clock signal is squared off pretty good! (sharp rising and falling edges)

Thanks for this manual Starrefision! I wasn't aware of a few of those functions!
