for my birthday, my parents presented me w/ a 32gb ipad 3! ...so totally stoke'd, there's so much i want to try w/ this thing that i don't even know where to begin. i know i'll need to get an irig or something to get midi action also i'm thinking i want an audio interface. i really want to control my modular setup & also use the ipad to playthrough & use more plugins. also, i'd love to be able to take the ipad wherever & be able to edit recordings. idk, just felt like a celebratory ipad3 thread was necessary. any thoughts, suggestions, anything...? |

oh yeah, i remember you guys raving about it, must check it out.
...& django's sequencer ipad vid was pretty excellent, gotta get some shit like that going.

as far as audio editors, there must be some decent editing suites for the ipad? i really want to be able to finalize tracks on the go...cut, paste, use plugins, master, all that & do so at work, on trips etc...this would help tremendously. |

And the Tenori-On app is good too for a sequencing other gear. There are a ton on free noise making apps. You can even get Reactable in a mobile version. Lots of fun stuff. Most will work on your iPhone too. _________________ -James

| I wouldn't get any expensive gear just to get MIDI I/O on the iPad (or audio for that matter). I've found that any $5 USB MIDI interface from ebay just works.. if it doesn't need drivers on osx/win it works on the ipad too. |

I joined the ipad club as well.
Animoog and phaedra are on the top of the app list. I've noticed one issue though. When I read muffs on the ipad the soundcloud players don't show up in posts. Any idea on what's up with that? I don't have the issue with safari on a macbook. _________________ What were we talking about? I forgot... |

| I highly recommend touch osc, if you've got compatible software. It's a "lazy mans app" but it's great. |

Try and find a Tascam US-800 for $99.
You can record 6 or 8 channels at once with multitrak! _________________ WTB Buchla 100 modules

damn, so much stuff to look into, gonna be sweet when i get it all up & running as a multi-functional device.
so what are people using as far as audio editors, or a DAW on the go?
any suggestions as far as using the ipad as a playthrough device for plugins, etc...i'm hoping i can use plogue on the ipad & get things moving through that. anyone do that?
day off tomorrow will be devoted to the ipad & enjoying this stellar weather! |

No soundcloud on my iPad either Fred though modular pics look fantastic on it.
Animoog is pretty amazing , it's sort of unbelievable how great it sounds. Made some wimpy pads right away that I fed my modular & made a mess. It's a lovely companion for whatever you have going on. |

Whaa??
I was set to break down and buy Irig. Can anyone point to one of these inexpensive non driver USB midi boxes that will work with an iPad 1?
How do you connect it? Via a female/female USB adapter?
Most intriguing news!
PS: I LOVE funk box and nanoloop on my iPad. Both are fun as hell and highly reccommended.

| I believe Soundcloud is in the process of switching their embed codes to use html5 audio and iframes, but the old embeds used flash. That's why you wouldn't see them on the ipad. |

| Yes it does, did you get steppolyarp too? Fanfuckingtastic! Grab'd the tenor-on app as well since I always want'd to try one. It's a lot of fun, not sure how to sync it up w/ other apps yet or if I even can, but freeform jamming along w/ animoog slays. |

Just got an iPad a couple days ago, haven't messed with TouchOSC yet but I have a feeling I will prefer physical midi controllers instead. I have an MS-20ic on the way for the iPad, I remember when these were selling for $80 years ago, now they're more than 3 times as much for just the controller. Anybody think they're worth it for that price?

No flash makes me
It interesting to see that developers are moving towards HTML5. Apple power!?
Now all we need is modular planner to do a complete rewrite in HTML5 _________________ "Modular synths can take your ego out of the equation – which, in music, is a blessing" - Jeremy Greenspan

Bump - I'd like this answered too, as I'm getting an iPad next week. iRig looks like the thing to buy, but at $70 I'm definitely interested in cheaper alternatives if they work.
Edit: some searching lead me here: http://iosmidi.com/devices/
Has anyone tried the Camera Connection Kit method of MIDI with their iPad 3? |

| Ebay - USB MIDI and I'd recommend limiting the search to your country and buying from there if it's available because unless you live in china shipping will be much, much faster. I have no idea if it works for version 3, but if it didn't I would think we would be hearing all about it. I did try a third party Camera Connection Kit before I bought an official one and that did not work. |
