K+H o300 monitors and Sennheiser HD-650 headphones.
(but I don't really enjoy working with headphones on modulars - as I've witnessed patches go from subtle to brainmeltingly loud within an instant)
Alternatively, there's this voltage controlled dildo option I keep hearing about... Supposedly it 'opens up' more direct interaction with modular 'performances'.

krk vxt8 to get the boom
and at home beyerdynamics 880pro. very natural and comfortable to wear over long time, but I think there might be better ones for "electronic" sound |

i don't think you'll be disappointed, best headphones i have ever heard or owned, and despite what many say, work fine with "regular" headphone outs too. caveat: i haven't heard the hd800s or any stax cans yet, so my opinions may change in the future!
the hd600s deliver in the two main categories of "perfect headphone" for me, they sound amazing (extremely neutral sound with full frequency range), and they are extremely comfortable to wear for hours on end.
i tried the hd650s but really didn't like them. |
thanks for encouraging me . whats been mostly holding me back is that i have to order them online from the US and i don't know how much it will cost me in the end . they are like 350 $ on AMAZONE US but i might get hit by duty and taxes . here in montreal, canada they are at least 600 $ before tax in store , thats too much ! so that and the fact that i would have to post-pone my next module make those headphones a purchase that is always pushed back at the bottom of the wish list |

Event Opals for me and Sony mdr-7506s if there's anyone around to be bothered. Sometimes I'd like to be more staunch about it but it's really hard to stay in the zone when you're shitting someone _________________ Teki-psy proj. - http://soundcloud.com/mythopoetics

| Seems like the answers are all over the board. I don't have a modular yet, so I was just curious what people are using. I have a decent home studio setup, but ever since my twin boys were born last year I only get to work on music when they're asleep so I have to monitor through my HD600's. I'm sure that's what I'll be using once I do get my modular. On the rare occasion that I have free time and the boys aren't sleeping, I have KRK RP5's. |

I suggest you start using your monitors even when your kids are asleep, at very moderate levels, of course. It will be better for all of you in the future if they get used to sleeping regardless of whatever noise there may be around.
You never know.... listening to you making music may even help them sleep better, especially if you make ambient. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |

Easy. Send her shopping for a few hours while you do the test. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |

Usually I listen through my AIAIAI TMA-1 headphones. They are for DJing really but they do sound amazing.
Need some monitors really though. When I need to mix stuff I have to use the editing suite at my work. |

I've got an old pair of Sony MDR-7509 headphones which have been my go-to for the past 15 years. They're about to fall apart and I've been eyeing the HD6xx series. What were your thoughts on the HD650s? |
