I'm planning to get a sequencer (maybe a kilpatrick step sequencer)
and I want to do really slow sequences ...
The kilpatrick K2579 user manual say :
- Gate Length – The gate length affects how long notes will play on each step. The setting can range from 1-48 clock ticks.
I don't get the "1-48 clock ticks" thing ...
How can I manage to do do really long gates without a keyboard ?
Do I need a trigger delay ? CA Tripfire or something like that ?

An alternative to using the sequencers gate length is to have your sequencer gates trigger an envelope generator (something that will create whatever slope of volume you want ADSR, ADR, D, etc).
For example, I'll take a clock out of my RCD and use it to clockl my sequencer, but also take the clock and plug it into my doepfer quad delay, which gives me a nice taper off. Plug the sequencer into the vco, out from the vco into a vca, CV control of the VCA from the quad decay.
Now you can control the length the note plays by tweaking the dcay knob.
You can get more complex by using a CV controlled envelope and then controlling that via another sequencer so you get varying note lengths. |

Thank you jp for your quick answer !
What you describe is a classic trigger ----» envelope ----» vca patch .
But when I play melody with a keyboard I gate the envelope (attack/decay stages) and if I hold the touch for a while the envelope stay "open" (sustain stage) until I release it .
How can I do that with a sequencer ?
Is it a gate length issue or not at all ?
