Just gauging interest in either a single width dual, or double width quad Low Pass Gate module in MU - no resonant feedback. _________________ Doug Slocum

Why no feedback? _________________ What they do is this: They leak current in proportion to the frequency of the signal. The ramifications of this can only be truly appreciated when solving nodal current balances in the Laplace domain, unfortunately.

Nice concept for a module. I suggest single module dual lpg's. _________________ Beatniks and Bongos/Bagels and Bongos/Buchlas and Bongos...

Just thinking (a rarity!) Do I recall someone else having a MU LPG? Can't recall who. _________________ Doug Slocum

Megaohm's CdS, though it is resonant.
Cynthia had a short-run quad LPG some years back; I really liked the panel design.

I'd be down for the dual single width then realize i'd want another... so i'll cast my vote for the quad LPG |

There's the Megaohm LPG which is very full-featured (resonance, dual CV inputs, switchable filter responses), and I believe roman_f was also considering making a clone of the Buchla 292 as part of his Sputnik line.
I already have two Megaohm CdS's, so I wouldn't buy more LPG's, but I think a dual LPG in a single width module may be very attractive. A quad may be too much for some people, especially if they already have a few VCAs. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |

I have one of the QLPG's from Cyndustries but would consider the resonant LPG to be useful.
I would regard the dual, 1U to be more popular for many reasons. I rarely use all four channels of the Quad LPG in a single patch. _________________ OpenTape

Ok, I'm home and more relaxed... (rough day in jury duty). Enjoying a beer and some Masonna CDs.
So, as I mentioned, MegaOhm does the CdS VCF/A, which is a fantastic module (I have two!) - it is resonant, with other goodies like a CV input attenuator & CV input VCA.
But, I think some sort of more compact module would also be great, for when those other features aren't needed. Personally, I really enjoy the CdS both with and without resonance. For me, feeding a LPG a pulse is so much more fulfilling than sending the pulse to an EG and then a VCA. Perhaps I'm impatient, perhaps after many years I still feel uncomfortable with ADSRs, I dunno. But, no matter: I really like the result.
Not sure exactly when, but Cynthia used to make some Quad LPGs in MU format. I didn't find out about them until they'd been discontinued. I know a year ago she mentioned to me the possibility of doing a few more, but I'm not sure if this will ever come to pass, as she is definitely changing her business model & manufacturing techniques. But, of course, I can't speak for her!
Here is a pic she sent me; personally, I really love the layout. (I have other pics too.)
I have heard, however, that the CV on this is a bit wonky, or at least that it wants 10V CV inputs to fully open the gates.
While I have 10(!) PCBs for the Craig Lee LPG (with VC response) PCBs, and plan to make 4-8 in MU format, I would love at least one quad LPG - I think it would pair particularly nicely with my Moon Trigger Sequencer. But, I could see a dual 1MU being more popular. |

The MegaOhm Delta filter (three pole, controllable resonance) has the feedback
path to raise (or lower!) the cutoff frequency based on the output. So, you can
do an LPG with a few knob twists.
I think the MegaOhm Delta has replaced the Steiner as my #2-to-buy MU format
filter... maybe. I still think people should start with a state variable filter, but for the
second filter... hmmm... the Delta is a rising star to me.

While the Delta is an amazing filter, I don't think it qualifies as an LPG. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |

I have a Borg 1 filter in my euro rig, which is a vactrol-based multimode filter with a response that is continuously variable between LP, BP and HP, but I haven't experimented much with the HP response. I'll try to correct that tomorrow. I like how going slightly from LP to BP seems to shift the passband of the filter, but then you need to run the output through a VCA because the filter doesn't fully close anymore. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |

At least 10v. The Cynthia one really is crap as it is. I have breadboarded though not completed amplifier circuits for mine, which makes it perfect for me. I wasn't a giant fan of the MegaOhm one, though most people seem to find them useful. To me, it seemed either on or off, while a properly amplified gate into the Cynthia one has a more delicate plonk that I like.
I'd be interested in trying Doug's and would be most likely to get a quad version, but my first preference would be to find another of the Cynthia ones. (If anyone has one going unused, drop me a note!)
Cheers,
Brian |

I have two 292e clones on order from Roman/Sputnik. Each has a single channel, and I am hoping for full Buchla performace. I also have a 200e so will post a comparison when they arrive. Right now Sputnik has five pcbs in various stages being built and MegaOhm are out; so Doug I think a larger production run which is more compact and readily available would be welcome. _________________ Beatniks and Bongos/Bagels and Bongos/Buchlas and Bongos...

And a wonderful triplet it is. The third on mine is a bit slower and the first two are twins. Awesome module!

I'd be very interested in a 1MU dual LPG module.
But I would still be happy if the project comes alive as a 2MU quad. _________________ Look at the silence

I'm not really as interested in a single width LPG in my cabinet. The quad panel resonates with me because I'd been planning a space for another Cynthia LPG. I'd also love a similar horizontal orientation if that happened to be what Doug had in mind. The other reason why double is less desirable than quad is because they would likely be less costly per gate because of the panel costs.
I'm just one dude though. I can always offer to trade someone a couple of shiny new SSL ones for their crummy old Cynthia one.
Cheers,

Oh, I see. A double-width quad LPG would certainly allow for a better ergonomic design. _________________ My music website | My modular blog |
