I have a wjmx12 that I got for a small donation to my old high school.. way to big and bulky to gig with.. I've used it only twice in larger gigs..
But at home its a wonderful way to quickly switch/mix between my Ipad/stock footage and live camera.

I'm a drummer so big and bulky has never really been an issue for me. It does look rather large though. Is there anything else in that price range with similar functionality? Who else makes video mixers aside from Panasonic and Edirol? _________________ A/V: http://www.hardscience.ca

The Videonics MX-1 is a bit more limited, but small and in that price range. It's a 2 TBC mixer with up to 4 inputs. Their MX-Pro is usually a lot higher, but occasionally you find one cheap. It's got a few more features. _________________ Dave Jones Design | http://www.jonesvideo.com |

Thanks Dave. I'll keep an eye open for that one too.
...on another note.
I've been rethinking what I want my rig to accomplish and I'm starting to lean more and more to towards mixing and generating swirls and shapes either by themselves, or blended with other video footage. That said, I'm thinking a few VWGs would probably be a good addition. Any suggestions on a system that could incorporate that, but still stay within the $2K limit.
This was the original system that was suggested by Lars:
| creatorlars wrote: |
Color Video Encoder
Video Sync Generator
Triple Video Multimode Filter
Video Blending Matrix
Voltage Bridge
Sandin IP Function Generator
|
And this as mentioned as well:
| creatorlars wrote: | | If you want more traditional keying and colorizer options, go with the Fader/Key Generator instead of the filter. |
I looked Keying up and found this:
key Luminance key. Picture combining effect where the dark parts of one video source are replaced with video from another camera's picture.
I mean, that sounds pretty darn cool if you ask me and would be awesome to have the ability to do. I like the filter, but I'm starting to lean more towards the Fader/Key Generator.
I just want to nail this down before I make my big order... _________________ A/V: http://www.hardscience.ca

i dig the mx-10 and modded it as documented around the web for external keying of the 2 sources. sima sfx-m is also pretty good for cheap. _________________ ▲✌♡✂☃☂☁☀☻☹☺♢✄✐☒☠☣☢☤☎✇✈✖▼

Hey Arturo! I would definitely recommend the TVFKG over the TVMF initially in general terms -- it has a HUGE variety of uses (see the patch list on its' module page on the LZX site.) Also it's in stock now and the TVMF isn't publicly available yet.
One option if you want oscillators is to drop the Blending Matrix and Sandin Module in favor of two oscillators. That's going to slant the system heavily in that direction though. It's hard to make it strong for synthesis and processing both in the 2K budget.
You could always start with just the VSG, CVE, Voltage Bridge, and TVFKG as a 4 module rig, save a little money and get to know those VERY well, and expand from there after you have a better idea of where you want to go with your system. _________________ LZX Industries | http://www.lzxindustries.net |

Hey guys, a coworker of mine is selling a Christie Digital Vivid Lite LCD projector with extra lamp for $400. I said I'd buy it but I really don't know if it's a good deal. A google search shows the thing was released in 2001. It was a demo unit but claims it has very little use, plus the extra lamp. I can't seem to find any reviews. I know Christie makes high end projectors, so should I go with this or would getting a newer, perhaps less quality unit instead be a better option?
If anyone has an opinion, please feel free to voice it before I buy the thing!

Thanks!
Ps. I'm only going to be using it for live projections. _________________ A/V: http://www.hardscience.ca

That is a pretty good price, and Christie does make high end projectors. But modern ones also have much higher contrast ratios than ones from back then, which makes the blacks blacker and colors richer. _________________ Dave Jones Design | http://www.jonesvideo.com |

another n00b here planning what LZX modules to pick up. i'm after a "pattern synthesis workflow" rather than external video processing... but i'm also in love with feedback and video processing modules may come in handy there?
so far i'm thinking:
color video encoder
video sync generator
video waveform generator
audio frequency decoder
video ramps
video logic
and to pick up a 2nd VWG and the new TVFKG + VBM when they're out
was thinking to grab a tiptop audio happy ending kit or two for mounting, any cheaper/more sane option there? i'm planning this for a home studio, not touring.
also, for reference, my two favorite LZX examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlTgpQ-Hscc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWrt5xMK9cM
and my current gear list:
atari video music modified by switchedon
pocket v-blank
hss3jb
roland v4
the atari video music is the most satisfying bit of kit there, nice work liz! and that's pretty much what convinced me to dive into an analog modular with an audio frequency decoder. and like i said, enjoy playing with feedback on the v4 but would like more control over the feedback than that unit offers.
TIA for any thoughts/advice! |

You'd be much better off getting the TipTopAudio Powered busboard rather than uZeus.
Logic is great for patterns. But I wonder if you have enough going on in that rig to take advantage. Maybe get a cheap audio oscillator to support the VWG and put the logic back till next purchase.??
In fact if youre really into the patterns.. I would also hold of on the AFD in favor of other modules. (although I understand stocking is an issue) _________________ http://brownshoesonly.com | |

nickciontea, thanks for the tips! really wish i could have visited analoguehaven when i was in la last month to get a better idea of what i'm doing before diving in.
AFD is pretty key to me, that's been the #1 feature i look for as i picked up different video synthesizers to plug into the v4. will hold off on logic.
any particular audio oscillator in mind? if i go that route rather than getting a 2nd VWG will i need to pick up the voltage bridge? are there any audio oscillator and voltage bridge combinations that are more versatile/interesting than just picking up another VWG?
cases/power: i see the tiptop zeus busboard costs as much as the happy ending, got to explore options more. second guessing myself on if this will be purely studio since i do perform out... so far i've just been sampling analog stuff into modul8 but audio-reactive live patching has it's allure. is the tiptop station 252 out of the question for lzx setups? i saw in another thread there was the question of module depth, besides power. i see monorocket mentioned a bunch, any other manufactures that may not be on my radar? edit: read more on the lzx site, goike & enclave added to my considerations, hmm!
Arturo00, will play around w/ negative and keying w/ feedback tonight ^^
thanks again for all the thoughts! |
