I don't think you want to bridge pins 2 & 3, that would create a short from the hot side to neutral, not a good thing. I'll bet the resistor and lamp shown in the drawing are internal components (to let you know how they're hooked up), so you shouldn't have to install either the resistor or lamp yourself. It's simple enough to test, just put a light or some other device that you can turn on & off with the switch across the outlets, plug in the power cord and turn on the switch. Remember, you're working with line voltage here, which can be deadly. Since you apparently feel up to the task (otherwise you wouldn't be considering controlling line power), be sure to be very careful during testing so you don't short something out, or, worse yet, hurt yourself. I used an illuminated switch on a PSU I built and it would light up when connected to mains & switched on, whether or not there was a load connected to the outputs. I suspect your switch should work similarly, so you could cover the outlet pins to protect yourself, hook the thing up with a power cord and turn it on... it should illuminate.

I have the illuminated version but I'm not sure what the wiring diagram is telling me. I understand the need to bridge the 2 & 3 pin but is it telling me I have to put a resistor in-between? If so, how do I know what resistor?
All these questions... |
If you don't understand that simple diagram I STRONGLY advise you find someone who is familiar with mains wiring to deal with this. Otherwise we'll be sending messages of condolences to your nearest and dearest
But to answer your question, terminal 2 is the switched Live out, terminal 3 needs connection to the Neutral, and the Earth and Neutral connections are the same as for the non-illuminated version. The resistor is built in to the switch.
Cheers,

Thanks for the info and advice. I can't actually believe I looked at that diagram and though it was telling me to bridge 2 and 3 pins. I should probably just step away from it for the time being - a degree of turmoil in my personal life is clearly affecting my frame of mind more than I thought.

I had to wires mains into my Doepfer box as i used a different PS.
Like everyone has said : Check it , Check it and then once more.
Just keep telling yourself : LETHAL VOLTAGES , LETHAL VOLTAGES...
Make sure everything is really well insulated on both ends of the work too.
Chances are one day you might be feeling around in there behind a module and suddenly ZZZAAAPP !!!
Good Luck with it. _________________ http://soundcloud.com/cleaninglady
