I hope that I will get to take it with me once the play has run its course in July.
I'll post some recordings soon! _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Some things I have learned:
- cable binders are great (for the pedal board)
- less patchcables are more patchcables (how do I do that rotating wizard icon?)
- how to divide a clock (with the Timetable) and multiply it again (with the SCM) to get nice bassdrum grooves. Basically, I learned simple math again.
- documentation is futile, I need to upgrade my wiggling. practice practice practice.
And here is a pic, see if you can find me in all the fake blood:

Here is a song I wrote for the play. Its a one take live recording at rehearsals, but I spent some time today mixing it.

Thanks! One of the actors, Christoph Rinke sings. He is great to jam with so I don't need to write out the melodies entirely, which is a gift. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

This is awesome. I'd love to hear more of your work on this. I really admire your ability to pull this off. I would have been scared to death by a project like this, as much as I theoretically would love to be involved in this angle of theater production.
Cheers,

@bwhittington: Thanks for your kind words! I have time tonight to record more songs from the play (I hope) - I'll post them as soon as I can mix them.
The modular works great for the stage - R54 screeches for the agression in Orest's head, distorted sequences and spring tank hits for murder scenes, ambient bubbles for Elektra's grief etc. It enables me to focus much more than my usual midi contoller and plugins approach. Plus it has an aura as an instrument that is respected.
Now I only hope that the black blood spilling on stage will finally work as planned and not create a slippery mess for everyone to fall over. That has been a main concern the past days. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Thanks radams!
We have moved the opening to the 20.5., as there were to many technical fuckups to get it to work in time (liquids and fine pigments on stage can be tricky).
Good thing is, Christoph (the singer) and I have decided to put out an EP on Bandcamp next week. I have already layouted the cover and mixed two songs. All the others are recorded.
Mixing is a bit more challenging outside of my studio, but I know my Beyerdynamics and the Macbook speakers pretty reliable for vocal levels. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

My workplace:
I had to skip the stand because the makeup of the actors produces clouds of dust that would kill the synth when lying down. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Its done!
We opened last night and it was pretty damn good! Clouds of makeup-dust (Heilerde) filled the room, so every time played music people started coughing. I have to decide whether I find that funny or annoying.
My A-199 broke at the start of the performance - luckily only the input to the spring tank and not the out. This way I could still hit it when someone was killed on stage. I missed the depth of the reverb a lot, though.
Now I am waiting for the reviews to arrive.
If any of you guys want to come, drop me a line! _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Congrats! Seems like it has been a wonderful experience. I'm looking to leave the seclusion of my lab soon, so I've found this very illuminating and inspiring. _________________ www.joylessrapture.tumblr.com |

Thanks guys! I hope to repeat this in the next season in a different place. Building a 6U briefcase for that. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Man, this is awesome! I love the restraint of the music (it's easy to go mad with the modular :-), and the way it blends with the voice. Very, very nice.
Cheers,

Thanks a lot! Having just one patch to perform all the music with restricted me - in a good way. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |
