i don't exactly remember the name or location - i assume it was nakwon arcade from the pictures in this thread and from a google search.. but I had much fun in a small boutique and vintage synth store in seoul five or so years ago.. it had to have been in nakwon arcade. I played on a monomachine sfx6 and a sh101.. nothing was plugged in to demo, i had to ask for each synth that i wanted to play. but it was cool, nonetheless. from what i remember they had an omega8 and a memorymoog and a jupiter...

Most likely imported synths won't be cheaper there than in the US. Most US goods end up expensive as heck there due to import taxes. Like a Mac, and if you factor in the common Korean's wage, a Mac is about twice as expensive there. And they have a much better internet infrastructure than the US, so they know what stuff is worth from the web.
It was a pretty poor country until about the 80's, so there won't be so much vintage analog stuff. Yongsan, when i was in korea, was mainly computer electronics.
DongDaeMoon has an all night open air market, mainly clothes, but some other nick nacks too. Worth a visit, watch out for pickpockets. |

I can vouch for all of these:
Dos Tacos
Three locations around Seoul (Gangnam, Apgujeong, Hongdae.) The original location in Gangnam is arguably the best, but the menus in all three places offer veggie-friendly choices including quesadillas, burritos, and nachos. Vegans can easily opt out of the cheese and sour cream toppings. Caution: the potato burrito may make you weep with pleasure. Fountain drinks are refillable, and the casual atmosphere and very reasonable prices often draw a crowd.
Gangnam Station (line 2), exit 6. Go straight for a few minutes and look out for it on your left, tucked behind a Tous Les Jours bakery. If you pass Kyobo Tower, you’ve gone too far.
dostacos.co.kr
Petras
Treat yourself to the classics, hummus, baba ganoush and falafels, served with fresh pita bread or try a savory tomato and eggplant dish. The owner will happily cater to large groups, and if you’re in the mood for something different, ask for a hookah and finish your meal with a mild, fruity, nicotine-free smoke.
Noksapeyong Station (line 6), exit 2. Use the pedestrian overpass to cross the road, turn right and walk up the hill. Petra is about 20 metres along, on the second floor of a red brick building, on the left side of the road.

Everest
The secret is out. This Nepalese-Indian Shangri-La is tricky to find on foot from Dongdaemun station, but that doesn’t stop the scores of people who regularly fill the restaurant or spill out onto the street to wait for a table. The food is exquisite, the service is friendly, and the prices are very palatable. There are many Indian restaurants in Seoul and even in Dongdaemun, which serve a decent curry or paneer dish, but this joint is several notches above. Come early, and bring friends!
Dongdaemun Station (line 1 or 4), exit 3. Go out the exit and walk straight for 100 metres. Turn left at the pharmacy and walk 50 meters. It’s straight ahead, up the stairs. _________________ FREE remix album out now on Gang Sign Records

| On Insadong there is a REALLY fancy vegetarian restaurant that serves temple food. for 60,000 won (Like 51$ I think) per person you get a 19 course meal and a 4 act traditional Korean music/ dance show. It's pretty great. I'd need to look up the name if you were interested. It's also quite well hidden. If you walk up to the tourist helper people they can help you find the way. |

Do you know if Korean temple food is like Japanese temple food (Sho-jin ryori) or is it all that fake meat stuff?
thanks so much for the input from everybody.
I was expecting to have 1.5 days free for looking around, but just got emailed a schedule for yet another meeting, so am down to Mon afternoon and wed morning bugger...fuck the conference
at least two of the veg restaurants are very close to our hotel -(New Start and garobee)
Otherwise I suspect the best I will be able to do is a sprint thru Yongsan electronics markets.....where are the CA3280s???? _________________ nonlinearcircuits

No idea about the Japanese temple food, but there was no fake meat at this place. There is another place down the road that serves all that fake meat stuff, but this place was the real deal. |

| On Insadong, there are tourist helper people. They walk up and down Insadong in groups of 2. They wear all red. If you ask them, they will show you the way. Try to have the phone number to the place. I'm sure they will know what it is, but just in case. They'll even call the place for you and get you some directions. |

Thanks to all who gave tips on Seoul
in the end I managed to get to everywhere I wanted except the DMZ
Yongsan electronics town is not really worth it if you are looking for components, few shops are geared for retail and you can find almost everything there easier and cheaper online. There was one arcade that just had a floor of used record stalls and audiophile stereo stores. That was interesting, never seen home speakers as big as a car before or tube-amps with over 40 tubes in them. No bargains tho, just good to look.
Nakwon music arcade, good if you like guitars. found a vintage synth shop, he had plenty of interesting old Rolands, Korgs, Moogs and prophets, but prices higher than ebay or anywhere else - http://www.crazyanalog.com/
Found the vegan temple restaurant Sanchon by accident, its about two blocks from Nakwon, along a tourist shopping street, down a little winding alleyway. They have a store on the corner selling various unusual herbs and veggies.. We went there at lunchtime....a 40 course meal....fukkn hell!!!! thought i was going to explode. Their home-made rice wine is delicious.
Also our hotel was just up the road from the Bongenusa temple which was in full swing preparing for buddha's birthday celebrations so got to see a lot of great decor, stalls, dancing, singing and lit paper statues.
the rice drink below is fermented iced rice tea _________________ nonlinearcircuits

Nagwon is kinda lame. Overpriced unless you want a noraebang (Karaoke) machine.
I'm really happy you liked the restaurant. I took my parents and the in-laws there when they visited. They hated it. My wife and I decided that we are going to go again sometime soon, so we can enjoy it without the whining and complaining. Did you catch the show?
Also, I think I went to that same temple last weekend. http://instagr.am/p/LXTe-KQBSC/ Was this the temple? |

Wow can't believe they didn't like it, it was one of the best things we did in Seoul. I admit 2 or 3 of the more bizarre dishes we didn't like, but that is ok, I appreciated the challenge.
We were the only customers for the 1st hour, then an pair of old ladies came in and they were placed at the table right next to ours....in an empty restaurant, no worries just different. No show, but we did watch some pretty awesome traditional dancing at the temple. The music was wild, I have some korean witch-craft music/chants somewhere on CD, it equalled that in intensity and uniqueness.
not sure if it is the same one, we went here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bongeunsa
there were so many buildings tho _________________ nonlinearcircuits
