Hi guys,
I'm undecided between an es-3 or getting a 2nd hand 828. these are going for about the same price...
828 pros
good conversion for 8 channels if I ever wanted to record a live show.
maybe CV input ?
828 cons
need to make cables
require firewire connection
es-3 pros
proper CV voltage
es-5 expansion
Is there anything I'm missing here? I would run the 828 slaved to my uln-2 via adat. |

I'm loving my ES-3. Great to have it as part of the modular, it looks great, and everything works perfectly. |

the cables aren't that big of a deal... i made mine in an afternoon with zero soldering experience.
however the 828mk2 can only put out around 7V; fine for pitch cv and triggers but not quite enough to fully open and close filters & vcas. also no cv input but then i dont know of any interface that has dc-coupled inputs.
ideally get both for 16 channels of cv control. _________________ “Kraftwerk got off on the third floor and now George Clinton’s got Napalm Death in there with him. The elevator’s stalled between the pharmacy and the athletic wear store.” |

I have both (896MkIII + ES-3). You should have both. Thats my logic and I'm sticking to it. _________________ "Modular synths can take your ego out of the equation – which, in music, is a blessing" - Jeremy Greenspan

Mine has Cuemix. Plus I got the BlackLion modification which makes it
a bit better on the conversion. Although I don't use it for recording...
I'll use it with Maschine for 8 outs or with Silent Way.
Benefit to 828MKII is 24/96 without losing resolution. ADAT + ES3 uses
SMUX to get 4 channels or you can use a work around the get 8 channels.
Both is really the best choice for 12-16 channels. Amazing how quick those
things can get eaten up with clocks and triggers alone. _________________

Sounds like you need an ES-5. |
Tell me about it I've got to read up on the MKI hack though. _________________
