What are you guys using for monitoring video sources? I have a quad splitter but id like to be able to monitor at least 9 sources. i tried out a 16 channel multiplexer but it made an annoying sound (assuming it was for security) when i plugged it in and i couldnt figure out how to turn it off. having the option to monitor the main output in a larger view while the all of the sources were tiled smaller would be nice. i was looking at this unit:
COLOR SAMSUNG / GVI TRIPLEX MULTIPLEXER 1 QUAD 9 16 DISPLAY
some of these units have a motion detection feature. it would be interesting to have multiple sources with movement and have the multiplexer change the output based on the motion, if thats possible

Wait a second. You mean to tell me this guy has 30 of them and is selling them for $32 each?!
Tbh, I'm pretty new to this video stuff, but that seems like a very good and very affordable piece of equipment that could really come in handy. The zoom feature alone is very interesting to me. _________________ A/V: http://www.hardscience.ca

I don't have any real advice on larger monitoring solutions like this, but that unit does look like a good deal. Motion detection is an interesting thing too -- I'm really interested in experimenting with motion detection methods once we have the reprogrammable frame buffer in the system. _________________ LZX Industries | http://www.lzxindustries.net |

Looks like potential fun. I wonder if it has screw holes for rack ears, that would be an awesome bonus. _________________ Tommy DOG

That definitely looks like a 1U rack mount sized case. I don't see ears in the pics, but I'll bet it at least has holes on the side to attach ears to. And it certainly has enough connectors to be loop-thru. In fact if you're not going to be looping thru, you'll probably need a bag of 75 ohm terminators to use with it. I don't see termination switches. _________________ Dave Jones Design | http://www.jonesvideo.com |
