| since gate expander has 8 ports, I can use each port to transmit 16 usual midi channels, each of the 8 ports can work as individual midi port simultaneously? |

| Yep. Just realize that each port will require a separate instance of the ES-4(or 5, I guess) Controller plugin. You can use the 'thru' function to chain them together since they all need to go to the same spdif outs. |

so I can't use all 8 ports on es-4 expander as 8 midi out ports with one es-4?
If i would want to use 8 midi out ports, I will need 8 ES-4s and one ES-4 expander? |

| I think he was talking about multiple plug-in controllers, not the Euro modules. |

What chrisso said.
The plugin is what deals with MIDI but each instance of the plugin can only operate as a single MIDI port. That's why you need 8 instances of the Controller plugin to use all 8 Expander outs as MIDI ports. Check out the 'thru' function in the ES-4 Controller manual.
You don't have to use all 8 for MIDI, of course. That's just what it would take to set up what you described on the software side. |

no I'm asking about hardware actualy.
I have alot of MIDI modules and keyboards, which are collecting dust right now because I can't really use them with my DAW due to high jitter in Windows 7 thru USB.
after i found out about the ES-4 Spdif to midi conversion, now Im interested in buying it, but first i wanna make sure if i can send multiple midi out ports to my midi modules.
I don't really wanna chain them together in series by midi thru from one midi out port.
for example, lets say I have 4 MIDI sound modules. How many Hardware ES-4s and ES-4 expander do i need to output MIDI from my computer to each module, 16 channels per each module. ? |

Just one of each.
1 ES-4 and 1 Expander = 8 MIDI ports |
