hmmm, so many cool new modules announced by intellijel recently - still no envelope generator however.
strange, somehow. seriously, i just don't get it

maybe the QUADRA...

Are you kidding!? This thread almost nailed the quadra's features. And, FYI since this is basically very much a buchla 281 in euro, there is a way to patch 2 channels to act as a Adsr. Just look at the quadra thread for the link to do so. I'm seriously considering selling my maths for this thing! I mean, pair it with a quad attenuverter and you have almost 2 maths in 24hp.

Providing you don't need the signal inputs for slew/lpf/stuff, built in shape controls, attenuverting outputs and the logic & voltage control bits (unless u get the quadra expander for this stuff).

Not to say the Quadra is not a GREAT alternative to Maths for it's most common uses - AD envelopes and lfos. thumbs up

Also, the fact that the pots are attached to the panel with nuts is definitely a big plus for the Quadra in my books.

Anyway... this is muffs so of course the correct answer is to buy both. hihi

I guess I should qualify my statement by saying I also am having a Quad Slope panel made (2 Serge DUSG clones) so that would cover my slew/lpf/cv shaping needs. By patching the output back into the Both CV in, you can vary the response curve...

Besides, I will probably want to get another maths again once the updated design comes out...

Quadra will be perfect for replace my A-143-1 and maybe one maths but no sure (maths have log/lin/exp...!

You should be able to get the shape of the Quadra to vary by feeding the envelope output into VC inputs on the Quadra Expander, but I think you'd need an inverter/attenuverter to get all the shapes you can get with the Maths? - I guess things will become clear when there's some demos / manuals for the new intellijel modules.

There is a switch on the main module to select the curve of the envelope already. The feedback trick would also work though.

The switch will be handy for quickly changing it, but the thing I'd be scared of losing from the Maths is that the response is variable. Sometimes exponential is a little to sharp, its nice to tone it back a little. I really would want to hear some extensive demos before deciding on a swap. Maths won't be available until the end of summer from what I understand, and schedules were made to be broken!

Yikes. So are there not going to be new maths until they make the second version of it?

True. Plus I wouldn't consider the two exact replacements. The Maths being a slew, it can also do some tricks the Quadra can't(lpf, env follower). Maths is a little more swiss army knife'ish but the Quadra gets you 4 really flexible EG.

Maybe the Quadra can slew? After all an AR is basically a slew...

Not exactly because it depends on how the trigger is handled in the circuit. The Quadra has a trigger input not a general input like the maths. Mr. Dixon noted in another thread that the EG will not retrigger during the attack phase which points to the fact the input is only good for triggers. Now, you could use the Quadra as a clock divider because of this but not as an envelope follower or slew.

The Quadra can't slew. It would have really complicated the design.

Really that's a wise decision. There's already the serge/bananalogue vcs or maths for that. Plus, there's the possiblity of something similar in those serge euro modules that are coming. This is different enough to use both styles of function generator/slope generator in a system. Really a great design. I for one am glad Intellijel didn't make a uVCS!

i have a doepfer A143-1... it doesn't click at all, and there is little to no ability to tune a transparent attack setting besides 0. it has annoyed me for many years. at once this module is incredibly useful and packed with features but also is pretty crappy in terms of the actual quality of said features. ive always wanted to replace it w/ 4 envelators.

The a143-1 needs to be recapped, a141 too, and iŽd say a143-2 too, .....not touched that one .
on my A143-1 i have changed from 2.2UF to 0.12 and 0.47
( unpatched since longtime.....not in mind what repsonse it has, but i could check, make one a own Doepfer EG thread maybe, if interested )
