| There is lots of new stuff on here. A couple of songs you can here that morphed into other songs, but thats just a couple and those are still interesting. |

Been bumping this for the last few days... holy shit, it did not disappoint. It's going to take a while to really soak it in but it seems to me that there is some amazing new material here and interesting versions of known tracks. Definitely as diverse, psychedelic, funky, deep and raucous as any other great Can album.

According to Irmin Schmidt, "Obviously the tapes weren’t really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them."
The previously unheard studio stuff is every bit as good as--and frequently better than--what made it onto Unlimited Edition. The live stuff is as great as you'd expect from Can but with far better sound than that previous box set. _________________ http://www.squidinsquidink.com

Yeah I definitely think some of the stuff on The Lost Tapes rivals their other released stuff. I love the set and I'm so relieved that it's sweet!
Supposedly none of it is outtakes, just previously recorded material that never made it off the shelf.
Definitely worth checking out if you are even remotely into Can! |

I actually think that minute to minute, quite a bit of it is better than some of their best albums. It doesn't flow as well as a set as say Future Days, but you really can't expect that, it's from throughout their career and stylistically all over the place. I get the impression they made albums by taking the bits and pieces that fit together and sewing them up into a cohesive whole, then leaving the rest, good or bad, that didn't fit right. A lot of good was obviously left behind and I'm glad this got dug up. _________________ http://vortexranger.muffwiggler.com

Tago Mago is fantastic. Ege Bamyasi is even better
And Lost Tapes is incredible, it's still on rotation here. 'Dead Pigeon Suite' basically encapsulates everything I love about Can:

The Lost Tapes starts pretty good, and just keeps getting better. By the second half of Disc 2 it's unstoppable and somehow keeps topping itself through Disc 3. Amazing comp.
For original albums I think Ege Bamyasi is probably my favorite, though Future Days has a marvelous cohesion. Personally I'm much more of a Damo Suzuki fan than Malcolm Mooney. _________________ http://vortexranger.muffwiggler.com
