Just based on the demos and online descriptions, I'd go for the Hordjk Dual.

The Jurgen Haible Tau "Pipe" phaser is still available at The Bridechamber.
http://yusynth.net/Modular/EN/LOGICAL/index.html
I have one and it is the most glorious wet and deep phaser I've ever owned. I have the CA3046 version in MOTM panel. I want to get an SSM2210 version too, but I'll have to build it and I'm too far gone on other projects. Scot Deyo will build them for you if you need one. I think he has the CA3046 in MOTM stock. _________________ OpenTape

Im using a dual "tau pipe" it is fantastic, but it is quite a build.
(note there are 2 of them on that panel!)
I really like oakley stuff and was originally going to build that but they were out of stock.
I never heard of Hordjik before this post! looking in to his stuff |

Holy smackie Neutron7!!
That is one badass module. What chip did you go with, CA3046 or SSM2010? _________________ OpenTape

I'd love to build a JH one sometime!
David - are you using the MOTM or Dotcom panel from Scott? Or did you make your own?
The Hordijk phasers look nice, but there's other modules of his that I'm personally more interested in.
I do own the Oakley Deep Equinoxe. I think it is a really fantastic module - sounds great, and packs a lot of power into 1U. Having the LFO output on there is a frequent godsend as well! |

I built a pair of Taus, one with CA3046, one with SSM2210. The difference is VERY subtle, in all honesty barely audible to me.
The Tau is great, the Oakley Equinoxe also, the Tau though has a more flangerish/tape flange sound, less of a classic/standard phasing effect. _________________ http://soundcloud.com/theda-electronic-music/

I'm pretty sure it is the Bridechamber 5U panel from Mr. Deyo. I bought mine from consumed here at MW so I didn't actually make it. That's why it works so well. _________________ OpenTape

A few really cool things about the Hordijk Dual Phaser -
1. It has both positive and inverted phaser mix (mix control at 12 o'clock is fully dry). This gives you a lot more sonic options.
2. Note the 'mode' switches - in SPREAD mode, modulating the phaser causes the upper and lower peaks to spread apart and bunch together, rather than just sweeping up & down as a group, so you can do all sorts of effects that go way beyond a phaser sound, like vocal formants. And since there is a second CV input which is not affected by the mode switch, each phaser can have both spread CV and 'sweep up & down as a group' CV from separate sources at the same time for some very complex effects.
3. The input jacks include some really neat normalizing tricks that route CV to both phasers, and that patch the two phasers in series with the second one inverted.
4. And of course, the fact that there are two independent phasers.
I have both the Hordijk Dual Phaser and the Phase Filter. If you already have some good filters, I recommend the Dual Phaser. If you also want to add a great filter to your rig and you don't mind sacrificing some of the unique features of the Dual Phaser, the Phase Filter is a great choice. |

Dual Phaser is really nice. In addition to DP's
comments above, it also tracks 1V/OCT, pings.
And I cannot confirm because I haven't tried
but someone was saying it makes a very nice
CV processor/generator as well. _________________

I'm using the phasor board out of a really thrashed arp omni I. It needed just 2 or 3 resistors to make it compatible with MOTM levels, and it sounds awesome!

I have the Oakley Deep Equinoxe, and it does some very nice things.
I've had it about six months now, and it's managed to warrant getting into my
MU-size performance skiff.
No problems and it's a very nice sounding, very understandable module.

FWIW my favorite is the COTK C1660 Phase Processor but it is more extreme than a normal phaser. I think it sounds quite a bit like the Hordjik Dual Phaser or Phaser Filter (I forget which) from demos I've heard. It has sort of a flanger with resonance plus phaser sound. I have the original Oakley Equinox and like it too. _________________ | My Facebook | My Soundcloud |My Vimeo | My YouTube | My GrooveShark | |

Everything Dave said about the Dual Phaser. Also the lowpass mode is an AWESOME added bonus.
The lowpass mode doesn't sound like any other LPF I've ever heard (in a good way).
The way Rob has routed everything, it's just very musical, for lack of a better term.
Almost any knob you turn or switch you flip, something cool happens. _________________ "Anything worth taking seriously is worth making fun of."

Fwiw The flight of Harmony Plague Bearer is pretty amazing and the "bare bones kit" is quite affordable and easy to make into 5u (or pretty much any format- So far I've made a modcanA and Buchla 200 version).
Perhaps nots as advanced as some of the ones listed here but it's quite unique and you can never have too many modular phasers
| mecanikill wrote: | OK so I have been wanting a phaser in 5U I have narrowed it down to 3 and wanted to hear others opinions on them that have used them or can offer any input on what one can do things the others can't. Here's the list:
Hordjik Dual Phaser
Hordjik Phaser Filter
Oakley Deep Equiniox
The Hordjik Phaser Filter interests me the most cause I love Hordjik stuff and filters any input would be appreciated. |
