Sort of.
But, it would be an "advanced" project compared to what I usually do.
Since there's 56 panel components on the panel. I made a panel board to mate with the main board.
I really didn't want to make and solder wiring to 56 components.
There are qty 5, 20-pin headers connecting the two.
I picked up some 20 pin sockets and some ribbon cable that could be connected to the headers and run to the panel components of choice.
But, it will take time and there will be some panel component-to-panel component wiring to do.
So, a bit more complex and meticulous.
The expansion module is all on one board, electronics and panel components. at least the stage gates are. the other jacks/MIDI out and USB are wired through connectors. The entire assembly connects to the main board with a 16P ribbon cable.
But, the USB and the MIDI out interface connector are also on the main board and accessible on the board for those who don't pick up the expansion module.
I "could" do an expansion board without the jacks for the DIY guys but, I'm not sure how I'd test it before shipping....yet.
Let me get the main systems done first. then, I'll gravitate toward the DIY version.
Short answer...Yes, and sorta no. At least not in my usual style. _________________ George

Umm...
John L. Rice just emailed me a link. The timing is pretty appropriate.
He came over last weekend to play. Asked if he could take some pix of the sequencer then, proceded to put the camera in video mode and record an unofficial interview about the sequencer......
I told him to leave it up.
Other than not shaving, not rehearsing and the video consisting of me being me, it's rather informative.
So, if you have a half hour to listen to me demo this thing and blabber on about it, here's the link....

I was testing two prototypes sync'd together and running them in Ping Pong mode with the foot switch connected to both.
When I tapped the foot switch, both would go into random mode until I tapped the foot switch again.
Jason Stiles was there and grabbed this on his cell phone while I was "working"
It was posted around the net a week ago but, I spaced out putting it here.

Really great technology, George.
I watched the earlier video on JLR's youtube channel. _________________ Richard

Feeling a il dumb..... What does the row of VAR knobs do? _________________ I prefer panel mount pots, Black and Silver panels. Patterns and designs are fine. As of 4-28-13, I shall not type another word on the topic. |

It depends.
Just another row.....
Primarily, those CV's go to a switch that allows you to use the pot on a particular stage to control the length of the stage. Thus Var(iable).
The internal system clock rate is Voltage controlled.
The Var out CV also has a direct out on the expansion module, included on the Euro version that allows you to send the CV wherever you want.
When the system is in 16 channel mode, it daisy-chains the CV-A (top row)and CV-B (bottom row) and sends those CV's out the main CV-A output.
The Var row is then sent out the CV-B output.

Haven't posted in a bit. Been busy.....
Prototype 3 boards for the SQ816 sequencer have arrived. Still waiting for the parts to get here.
If this board set works OK, we'll be close to launching production.
We've modified the MIDI out to output dual notes. One for each bank. If you want different voices, each bank can be programmed to any of the 16 MIDI channels independently.
I'm not getting a lot done..I've been getting sucked into evil vortexes while testing the system. Next thing I know, the clock has moved ahead 4-6 hours. Don't feel any effects of any alien probes or anything. So, must just be time slips.
Had to make a function cheat sheet. I couldn't remember what actions changed what functions. May have to include it with the system....
Reminder that Scott and I are both offering a 5% discount on pre-orders. So far, we have 50 and, the first run will be qty 100.
Going to grab a ghetto vid of this thing controlling two analog voice chains and using the MIDI on two seperate channels controlling a Yamaha QY 100, an Alesis QS8 and an Alesis SR-16 drum machine tomorrow and, I'll post if it turns out OK. I'm finding that I can change the dynamics and feel of the sequence just by playing patch changes on the MIDI gear while the sequencer is playing.

Thanks Pugix!
I'll be really glad to be out of the R&D mode and finally get this into the world.

The parts for prototype 3 arrived today.
Scott is coming over tomorrow and we're going to build a couple to make sure the new board designs are OK prior to production.
That's probably not any real earth shattering news. But, I had to write something.
This makes my 666th post
I know, hardly a drop in the bucket for most of you but, I had to do it

Then, Scott stuck a Jacklight in every possible output and took a video of that. It's much more festive...

Matrix has one of our second prototypes of the SQ816 sequencer to play with and posted a pretty cool demo Video of what he came up with while checking it out. There's a link at the bottom of the YouTube explanation that will take you to his post that details the patch he's using.

Scott and I are in the beginning stages of production for the sequencer.
i.e. waiting for parts to get here......
While we're waiting, we're working on documentation and packaging solutions.
We've decided to extend our 5% discount with free domestic shipping (US) special until Sunday, Jan 13, 2013. or, from the time of this post, next Sunday.
Here's the info card we made to pass out at synth meets, etc. The QR code can be scanned from your computer to link you to our sites for more information.

I finally got the SQ816 Sequencer User Manual written.
Tim Parkhurst did the graphics and layout for us. How cool.
26 pages and 3.5MB.
The sad part is that it just glosses over everything without getting into long, drawn out diatribes...
Maybe that's better.
