These photos are a little old now. The first one is real old. I'll have to do more soon. I have a second suitcase now with hopefully just enough room for 2 AFG's.

Me rig o' luvvin'

The Harvestman Polivoks is on the way.

Analogue Systems EMS Synthi filter awaiting a home (need to buy a rack...)

Analogue Systems French Connection on the way from Analogue Systems.

Doepfer MAQ 16/3 above ye olde Vostok

Here's the Vostok gettin' stoopit: http://upload.muffwiggler.com/Kent/VostokandMAQ.mp3

The Doepfer MAQ is using 2 lines (32 steps) to trigger the notes & the 3rd line is altering dynamics upon the other 2 lines at random. This sequence was recorded as a bed that follows some arpeggio lines on guitar, hence the repetitive nature.

Well, considering that I'm primarily a guitar player and the Vostok MK II is my first foray into modular synthesis... I'm loving the pants off of it! I really like the patch matrix because the connections are buffered, more solid than the 1/8th inch patch points (no crackles when brushed against) , and they keep things clear without the spaghetti nest of cables.

I've got a lot of things to figure out and I'm greatly enjoying the learning curve.

How is the Black Coffee MS-20 filter clone?
How does it compare with the one in the Vostok?

I had a friend who had experience with those who ended up selling them and holding onto his Frostwave Resonator as he said it was the dirtiest and truest to the original. ...and he got rid of the Vostok to fund his Serge obsession.

Looks like you're halfway there.

Today while bored at work I did some math and calculated how much it will cost me to fill my racks with what I want and the cost blew my fucking mind, although it's very doable in a years time.

i used to do that. but what's the point really. the list kinda morphs all the time and seeing far into the future is hard.

i take things as they come and go with the flow whenever possible.

they say age is just a number. well so is price. fuckit. live long and prosper.

Never think about cost unless you need the money for some essential none modular things, it will drive you mad.

Now I know I've posted this pic before and I will post a new one soon as I have acquired some additional real estate for modules in the form of a Synthbox case which will have some nice lighting effects added to it, maybe some of those mood lights that change colour?

This second picture is even older but shows some of my other kit. The venue was Thames Valley University in London in 2003 for a an annual event about modular synthesis in software and guys from all over the world turned up to either present, perform or just listen. Sad it never lasted.

I don't have a lot of money to just throw at this stuff, so that's why I was breaking down prices. I was able to group modules in relatively low price brackets ($300 to $400) that I would be able to purchase one time a month until I fill my space.

The order I purchase them in doesn't really bother me, as you can't expect these things to be in stock when you need them to be, so with how I have the brackets set up, each individual module can be swapped for another in a similar price range.

werd. that's cool. like i said i used to do that too. but beyond that letting it go is best. hopefully you take advantage of the used market.

that's why i point out it's hard to budget things. you will probably end up spending less and being able to buy more if you find the right situations.

This is true. The problem with less is more is that eventually you need more space!

I think once I fill my Euro racks and Frac rack, I might want to start on something a bit more esoteric, like the Wiard 300 Series. But that's at least a year off.

Well, the Filtered Coffee is the MS-20 filter clone. The Black Coffee's filter is a Low-Pass filter that is roughly modeled on a Moog Ladder filter, I believe.
The Vostok's filter is available as a separate module from Analogue Solutions and is called the SY02. This is quite similar to the stand-alone Filtered Coffee. Actually, most of the Vostok is made up of existing A.Sol. modules. Check out some verbosity regarding the SY02 here:http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may00/articles/analogue.htm

In short, they two monosynths are quite different from each other and I think that the MIDI to CV converter is the only thing that is the same. They both are very good at 'gritty' and aggressive sounds although the Vostok is more stable as far as tuning and tracking are concerned. I'm still new to this modular synth game, so take the above for what it is. Some plonker spouting off! w00t
