Anyone have (or have had) both of these and care to shed any light on the differences in sound? Obviously the Tip-Top is a fully featured while the A-117 is just a sound source that needs enveloped/vca'd. I'm mostly interested in the tone differences / similarities. Thanks!

thumbs up

I have an A-117, it's a good noise source but it doesn't have the features of the TT808 HHT,
I'd say from the examples I've heard online that the TT808 HHT is a better choice for generating 808 hihats

Check the attachment for TT808 HH BP out with res at 0 (start) vs. the a117 6 osc out (end.) The output for the TT808HH is normally half as quiet as the a117 (with res at 0) but I normalized the samples here. I have no idea what sort of filter is in the TT module, but I tried to BP the a117 using a QMMG and had no luck in matching their tones.

Apologies if you were expecting hi hats.. I thought a basic demo of the unmodulated BP/Osc outs would be useful for figuring out the difference in tone.
