For me one of the first electronic pop (dance) tracks carefully hijacked by Jean Michel Jarre for Oxygene.

Daft Punk owe Space a beer or two though..

One of my first records when I was a wee lad. Got it in maybe 1974 on 7". It actually came in really handy about a decade later when huffing N2O became the thing to do. That was the BEST record for that headrush. haha

There's some cheese in the Space library but every record is worth owning for multiple reasons. Way ahead of their time.

I have recently scored a stash of library LPs from the 60s-early 80s. There's some really old electronic stuff on 7". Recorded in 1964. I can't find a lot of info on it but it's some pretty "out there" stuff for the era. I have a few records by Erik Nordgren and Roberto Gerhard. There are also 5x full length "electronic music" LPs with various artists. These are mostly late 60s through mid 70's. Again, really crazy stuff. I'll get around to youtubing things eventually. In the process of moving right now.

Not quite as funky as the other stuff here thumbs up

I remember that tune a bit - ground breaking. Great video too!
I see they're French and it does have a sort of French sound to it, like Air.

I've now Wikip'd the band and am utterly gobsmacked to see a founder member was Jannick Topp - prior to this one of Magma's bass players and someone who played very aggressive dominating bass - a scary ground shaking uber-bass guru. Check out UduWudu.

i got a huge nostalgia rush seeing that old thames tv id :p

i dont understand how there is so much great early electronic music i've never heard of yet everybody still makes a huge fuss about punk or 60s/70s classic rock etc - it's all easily good enough to be worth a listen and there seems to be a ton of hidden gems!

Wow i've had the Space tune going round me head all day

did you notice this clone

PhineasFreak
i think i'm gonna have to make a mixtape of all these and put it in the car - great driving music!

Man I love Space… Great albums way ahead of their time… My Brother was a DJ in the late 70's in Denmark and I remember him playing it for me as a kid and even then I was blown away…

Anyone have any idea what gear they where using to make Magic Fly? The vid shows Minis but there is so much going on in the sound… Any lists anywhere?

Is there any proof that Delia Derbyshire tune is genuine?
I call fake - everything about it sounds wrong. (IMnsHO)
leeski
Not so sure about fake

it's on this trak but who knows seriously, i just don't get it
Barlov

Now I'm confused - Dance from Noah sounds older, but the techno link from PhineasFreak is a different track ??
I'd love to be wrong on this..

Thanks for bringing this to my attention PhineasFreak. It's peanut butter jelly time!

My first exposure to electronic music was probably Giorgio Moroders From Here to Eternity. I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time when my dad borrowed it from my older cousin who was a DJ. I had a copy of it on tape for a few years, then for ages I couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway this song from Space reminded me of FHtoE. Im sure I must have heard the Space track at some time, it seems very familiar, like a worn pair of old slippers that you just can't part with as they are so comfy.

Any guesses at what equipment would have been used to produce this?

Oh, I forgot about that track. It reminds me of this number from a year or two later. Quite certainly the first track to sample "Alien!"

The b-side's pretty dope, too. Just good-time disco with a wormy, legato lead.

[edit: ha, hell of a thread resurrection]
