I know both of those gents quite well, as in a roundabouts way, im related to them both. But yes, they've done some great library tracks. Some of Alan Hawkshaws KPM stuff is has become some real classic sampling material over the last few years. It pops up in all kinds of unlikely places!

Please ask them to reissue the album, it's £150 on Discogs!

I saw him play in Berghain of all places. I wonder how it compared to the clubs back in 1975....

I'm having a hard time figuring out what the term library records actually means. Could someone fill me in?

Session music that was released on volumes and sold through subscriptions to studios. You could license the music for use in your documentaries, PSA, pornos, etc. and pay a fee instead of hiring someone to write custom theme music or paying royalties for popular music.

The quality of it is all pretty hit and miss. Some of it is blatant ripoffs of popular music of the time, lots of orchestral, mood, "light" muzak sounding stuff. Then there are the "gems". The experimental, electronic, funk, etc where the composers were given creative freedom and made some of the dopest shit ever cut to wax. Crate digger heaven. The funkiest, nastiest breakbeats, crazy modular noodlings, ambient, etc.

Some of the better LPs fetch $$$ to collectors. I have a whole career worth of sample material available to me in the stash I came across recently if I ever get the time to actually do something with it.

I love egisto macchi, couldn't find the full record, but Voix has so many breathtaking moments...

again no full album : / but James Harpham - Nature's World volume 4 is also beautiful listen. Real kind of whimsical and relaxing

Here's a few library music mixes I made some years back. Mostly funk / rock stuff. Download & enjoy!
