was it quick? yes! was it dirty? yes! is it fun? I think so!


(excuse the bad sound quality, I did not have the phone cam rig with me)

Using a SHARP GP2-0430 (4cm-30cm) proximity sensor, signal is ~50Hz lowpass filtered, attenuverted and 3x gain boosted, yielding a +/-6V range. left jack is unused for now, I might make it an input that is added to the sensor CV

Very cool! How about a module that demodulates the signal from IR remote control units, then you could play your modular from across the room. SlayerBadger!

Funny you should say that, Roland's US lawyers sent me a couple of kilograms of cease & desist when I was selling my IR controlled oscillator. They gave up when I showed them the 1970s prior art razz hihi

Since I got asked for schematics in PM, here's what's inside:

- SHARP GP2-0430 (4cm-30cm) proximity sensor:

in order to fit in 4hp, I cut away the little PCB tab that holds the connector and soldered the severed traces with enamel wire. then I added a 100uF and a 100nF cap right on the power supply pin on the sensor.

- the sensor output goes through an RC lowpass to get rid of the spikes that result from the periodic sensing operation, I forgot what RC values I used but something roughly around 50Hz cutoff. If you can move your hand faster, increase this smile

- dual opamp configured as: attenuverter (unity gain) followed by a 3x gain inverting opamp.

just make sure to align the two capacitors exactly 89.3 degrees (or whatever that's is in imperial) as shown above!

Judging from the data sheet I assume that the sensor is powered by +5V ?
