COMPLETE KIT FOR EURO VERSION OF X0X-HEART

PART 1

- assembled heart http://synthcube.com/cart/open-music-labs-x0x-heart?search=xox-heart
- pacemaker pcb http://synthcube.com/cart/open-music-labs-x0x-heart-pacemaker-pcb
- panel http://synthcube.com/cart/open-music-labs-x0xheart-grayscale-panel-18h p

plus mouser BOM for pacemaker from their wiki page
https://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=ecfb 36f6f2

PART 2:

ADDITIONALLY YOU WILL NEED: (sorry unfortunately one company doesn't stock all those extra parts)

- jacks - http://shop.erthenvar.com/collections/accessories/products/3-5mm-verti cal-jacks (they only sell bag of 50)

- hex-nuts - http://erthenvar.myshopify.com/products/3-5mm-hex-nuts (yup jacks dont come with them!) there is also knurled version if you like

- ribbon cable http://shop.erthenvar.com/products/power-ribbon-cable?variant=15771973 699

- potentiometers - http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/alpha-single-gang-9mm-r ight-angle-pc-mount/ (4 X 50K Linear + 3 x 50K Audio + 1 X 1M Audio) (from the pull down menu)

- knobs http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/aluminum-vertical-knurl -black-index (needs 8 knobs)

- switches http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/26-2160 (2 of them)

I hope this post will help other people not so much experienced with part sourcing as well to complete your xox-heart

the sources for the jacks, pots, and switches are listed in the BOM:

http://wiki.openmusiclabs.com/wiki/EuroAdapter?action=AttachFile&do=vi ew&target=pacemaker_bom.pdf

you probably wont need standoffs. there are so many headers, that friction is good enough.
peteone
thanks but some of those links don't work - I will be updating links - would be awesome if everything was from Mouser sice original BOM is from there....as people comment..

mouser does not carry any of those other parts, which is why they are from other places. i tried to find reasonable parts at mouser, but there wasnt a single manufacturer of pots that had 1MA and 50KB in the same form factor, that was pcb mount and of a reasonable size/cost. which is a bummer. here is the new smallbear link for pots:

http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/alpha-single-gang-9mm-r ight-angle-pc-mount/

here are the jacks. there are a choice for the nuts, and they are not included with the jacks, but are available on the site.

ok, the BOM has been updated with working links. thanks for pointing that out.

Will those hi quality jacks from synth cube work fine?

No you need the pj301bm type of jacks , synthcube has them too so does erthenvar

what should rotation angle for the pots be?
also I don't understand what 50k - A and B is - what is A nd B>?
peteone
would this one work for 50k ones?

http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/cts-electrocomponents/296UD50 3B1N/CT2267-ND/203846

would this be 50K A or B?

B is linear taper and A is logarithmic or audio taper , you want right angle pc mount.

No , get the smallbear ones Tayda has them too but there out of the A50K

guys - hold one a minute here -

i am not an electrical engineer - dont know anything about values or anything all im trying to do is to order this shit from one store instead 0 going to 4 different places and paying for shipping 4 times - when shipping is more then the parts are...

i cant believe that one store like digikey would not have all thats left to buy

unfortunately, no single store carries every type of pot. unlike resistors, where a 1/4W, axial resistor is pretty much the same regardless of manufacturer, with pots there are hundreds of different 10k pots. you can get linear taper, log taper, reverse taper, center tapped. you can have 6mm, 1/8", or 1/4" shaft, which can be knurled, flatted, slotted, star (of 2 varieties), or smooth. the shaft can also be of 6 different lenghts, and the body width can be 9mm, 12mm, 24mm, round or square. it can be single gang, or up to a dozen pots in one body. it can have concentric shafts for controlling two pots in one, and one of these shafts can have a push/pull switch, which can either be momentary or latching. some have collars, others do not. some of those collars are threaded, others are not. pots are truely the bane of my existence when it comes to designing synths.

This is usually how it is unless you buy kits, you will have to get parts form different sources. I usually do Tayda , Mouser and Smallbear and then still end up buying things like jacks, and power connectors in bulk from other places.

very frustrating
peteone
Ok so with these-

VR1 1MA
VR2 50kA
VR3 50kB
VR4 50kB
VR5 50kA
VR6 50kA
VR7 50kB
VR8 50kB

Alpha 9mm vertical pots
Smallbear SKU: 1012A
http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/alpha-single-gang-9mm-r ight-angle-pc-mount/

I see 3 different types for 50k potentiometers. Since I have to order 3 A's and 4 B's - which ones am I looking at from the pull down menu
?
synthetek
4 X 50K Linear

3 x 50K Audio

1 X 1M Audio

cool thanks, just curious what is this REV Audio they have on the pulldown?

I have also updated Original post, and will continue with questions about couple more parts left out..in the next post

that stands for reverse audio. basically the resistance goes down instead of up as you turn it. with a linear taper pot you can just wire it backwards to get this effect, but as an audio pot has a log taper, you cant do that so easily.

Its another type , reverse logarithmic taper or Anti-log. If a BOM says C50K (or C and a different value) it means reverse logarithmic.

what about headers and connector for power cable?

I don't see any at Small Bear but MCM has bunch I just dont know which one is right i rather buy one long female and one long male and then divide them if you can do that... here is all of them http://electronics.mcmelectronics.com/search?cataf=&view=list&w=female +header&x=0&y=0

so lets say 2 of these http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/83-15404 (can they break off? so i can do 10 x 3P and 1 x6P ?)

and one of these http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/28-17704
(and break them off to same sizes)

Is this the correct spacing for both of them?

POWER:

I see Erthenvar has the one for power http://shop.erthenvar.com/products/shrouded-header

and the ribbon cable

the mouser cart had all of the SIP female and male headers on it. it didnt have the power connectors, though. the pacemaker board is pretty cramped with parts, so a shrouded power connector doesnt fit so well. it can be made to fit, if you really want to have a keyed connector on there. otherwise, a nonshrouded will work as well, youll just have to make sure you put the cable on the right way.

ok cool ill update
peteone
I think I got it all , can you please take a look at the first post and confirm all is there to build this module.

maybe add a link for decent wire

Thank you
peteone
can anyone who build xox-heart euro take a quick look at the first post and see if I'm missing anything?
