Thorsten Fenslau was a good young talented musician. Here is a release of him from 1991. But the melancholy he died in his young years by a car accident 1993.

Comsic Baby was one of the most popular aritists @this time. Today he doesn't make anything on this sector. He writes music for Radio/TV and compose classic music

Stoked for this thread. Here's a live set my duo Ono-Sendai played at a rave late last year. There's a dotcom entry system being sequenced for leads/effects by an MC-505 throughout all of it (alongside a bunch of other hardware). Recorded direct from the mixer via soundcard to a computer, improvised on the groovebox/synths.

My bandmate recently sold his MS2000 we mainly used for leads, so we're going to start using his and my (new) dotcom entry systems for all sequenced leads and effects. We might starting doing strange a-melodic groovy stuff with the modulars or even bump from 136 to 144 bpm or something wacky like that.

I've been into psytrance since the end of the 90s, and all I can say...

Yeah I like the oldschool goa sounds best too, but I just can't agree that the scene would be dying, gone stale or whatever.

I've been travelling a bit playing my music at the most, most, most, most amazing underground parties in some mindblowing natural locations, and a big part of the time I have felt a really rare kind of energy and magic with the people... Of course there's a lot of mainstream fullon/dark parties or whatever too, but I think there's space for everybody on the scene. And in the right setting, even the cheesiest full-on tracks can be mindblowing, it's not about the music, and it never was. The people & places create the culture... (And some would say, drugs, but let's not get into that topic.)

Fact is, the spirit of underground outdoor hippie techno festival/party is doing very well I think, even if a lot of the music in the current scene is a bit boring and derivative. (hey Israel, where we have these 20-something guys who never in their life probably listened to anything else than trance... do I need to say that the amount of interesting music I've heard over there lately amounts to nearly zero.)

Here's something I found again yesterday, I talked with them a few years ago at a festival, and they really think a lot about what they do and why. I think everything works out beautifully, with great wide atmospheres just wanting to be played outdoors on a big pa, together with some neat goa-style melodies

I haven't myself really listened to new trance since mid 2000s, maybe it's because I haven't had a proper internet connection until now so I stopped pirating music (hey, trance these days really isn't interesting enough to buy CDs.), maybe it's because I like listening to different music at home.
But I've been making electronic dance music myself the whole time, travelling etc, and now recently again got interested in going to parties just for fun too. There's just a great energy in the psytrance scene that is hard to find elsewhere.

And, yes, TIP Yellow is also one of my favourite comps!

I got into goa a couple years ago by continually seeing Astral Projection mentioned in the 'People who have used..." section on Vintage Synth Explorer. Their album Another World pretty much does it for me.

Lately, though, its the progressive psytrance thats been blowing my mind. Been loving the drum/bass grooves that remind me of EBM (speaking of the roots of trance). This Ace Ventura mix has been getting heavy rotation lately:

Im a little late to this one but...
Trance is alive and well! In california we benefit from a multitude of underground outdoor parties usually featuring fairly obscure and super synthd out dark/neuro psy trance. We even have two goa gil parties a year- one for his birthday in october, and one on memorial day weekend. We just celebrated gils 60th birthday last year!!

I personally make a loooot of psy trance, almost exclusively with modular gear. It is not the norm, but my experimental, evil, atonal trance shit does seem to have its niche. Check it out in my dog of tears soundcloud link. Babz here has mastered a couple tracks of mine, one of which is featured on my SC.

I highly recommend checking out music by some awesome artists like Ghreg on Earth, Derango, Sectio Aurea, Enichkin, Psykovsky, Axis Mundi, Fractal Cowboys, Facehead, Luuli, Secret Society, and many others. It is all super whacked out and trippy experimental trance!!

Also you can hear one of my tracks "hermetic rust" on goa gils new compilation, entitled "shri maharaj". Once again it is made with 95% modular gear.

Those of you that produce psytrance with a modular, have you used something akin to SSL's Digital Delay? I'm super excited that it has CV control over delay time.. syncing to god knows what. Hopefully I'll be able to pick one up in the next batch.

I never knew early trance had such an EBM influence. The stuff in this thread sounds pretty cool, looks like I have a new genre to check out
