Field Kit : How are you using it?

Post by RGB » Thu Jun 15, 2017 12:52 pm

I just got the email that my field kit is on the way! I am excited about the potential, how are you using yours?

Wondering if anyone can offer some advice on using the signal interface. I have been looking forward to using different types of sensors, switches, etc, but really have no experience with these things. I have been looking at adafruit with excitement and thinking of the possibilities. I am noticing that a bunch of these sensors only have two pins where the field kit has a three pin input. I am guessing that there is no ground on the sensors with two pins? Is the ground necessary?Any advice would be greatly appreciated in attempting to understand and explore these types of devices. Thanks in advance!!

Mainly using it for mixing, aux/sends, modulation of Eurorack/0-Coast.

I've a couple of DC projects awaiting time. I'll post when I have them sorted.

Great video on using a spider-web coil w/the Field Kit;

I rigged up the motor with a Tempi trigger pattern and nestled it between a string and bridge then applied a contact pickup which I nestled over it with two other strings. Cool acoustic sounding percussion. Good nestling fun.

Just picked one of these up. Great fun. Had a motor tuned in key with a guitarist at a jam the other night. Pretty fantastic to pull in “non musical” elements into the modular stuff I’m normally working on.

Most people I know of who got a kit aren't using it at all. :despair:

I guess it might be a bit hard to incorporate something so different into a normal modular workflow on more than a novel level.
Icy and melodic braindance/IDM winter track. ❄️

Hopefully the FK and Bastl stuff catches on more in time. It could spark a whole new diy ethos in modular.

That said,

A couple more FK “patches”. Just the basics so far. Needs some modular mashing still:
Magnetic Sensor paired with woggle motor to cv shortwave static
DC Submersible pump for gurglie drips and garggles:

I’m not getting the data input for the Switch function of the FK. What is it looking for?
I have a computer fan which I can control with a footswitch. It works great. I plug the yellow data cable of the fan into the switch header and....nothing. Then I plug the same yellow cable into the sensor data in and it works beaurifully. Im tryng to maximize all parts of the fk but have hit the wall with that lovely looking switch EG.
Anyone using the switch EG?

Here's a piece using the Field Kit, driven by a Varigate 4+, mostly effecting a broken crash cymbal for percussion. Ciat Lonbarde Tetrax Organ provides the melody.
