Several tracks on my bands last album (recorded in 2016, released in March of 2017) were taken from electronic tracks I released in 2012. Incredibly rewarding experience to rework the ideas in a different genre. I'm planning and going back over all my Jonathan Mono records and picking ten or so songs and reworking them.

Happens all the time. William Basinski found some unused material on tape, recorded in the early 80's then tried to transfer it, during the transfer the tapes disintegrated, this was the basis for one of his best known releases Disintegration Loops (2002). So a 20-year gap. The old material was "finished" by the sound of the material itself decaying.

This doesn't work for me, except with software. Most of the Max patches I use (not audio, just interactive/generative composition stuff), I created in 2007-2009 then extended only recently. I created stuff without a use case, then started to use it and learn what it really was. In fact I've spent this weekend going back to it and adding a few things. Ideas/music have totally changed but it's all the same crap underneath...
