Title is because, "There are many like it, but this one is mine." SlayerBadger!

I'm just a little over-stimulated after having received my own brand new Djangosfire build of a 208r. Bear with me, please. sad banana

I have a Blade with some quantized Eurorack tools that needs resoldering, and another module on the way, so all I had was literally the 208r on its own. So, I tracked it twice, once through an Eventide Space (Shimmer @ 5th and octave up), only using its own Sequencer driven by the Pulser, tuned by ear. Here's the first patch in the first two hours of ownership. No compression or limiting, just a 35Hz HPF.

Man, everyone in synthesis just LOVES frequency modulation, but for me, the growls you get from tuned amplitude modulation is where it's at...

Yes, I actually called this piece...

Great piece - its those growls that drew me to the Easel too.

Stunning!

Epic!

Really enjoyed this. Nice work! I love how a simple approach can result in so much variety.

Sounds great! SlayerBadger!
MindMachine
That's not really fair now, is it? You could have at least said 'after three hours of ownership'.

Mellow for you and really, really good. we're not worthy

LOL, thanks so much, MindMachine. I had one to play with for a month before getting my own, so I'm no savant or anything. Just knew my way around it fairly well when it arrived. Still have so much to learn.

Here's another sketch, this one with a QuNexus playing the complex osc live (through Eventide Space) and the OB-6 filling in the rest. In retrospect, I should have been soloing with the mod osc and not the complex osc, to automate more timbral shifts via CV, but it is what it is...played intuitively but turns out it's the key of D minor.

Found a new trick today. I like driving the Pulser on the 208 with a trigger from a TR-606; the clock is more stable, and you can program steps on the 606 to get nice stutters on the sequencer.

But today I found that one can set the Pulser to a very slow setting, run the 606 trigger to the Keyboard input, and send a random voltage to the Pulser's modulation input, and this can do its own randomized holds. So, running the sequencer based on the Pulser, it holds some sequencer stages longer than others, resulting in expressive, uneven increments, but always inherently a division of the clock. The lower the random voltage, the longer the stage is held, to the maximum length of the Pulser's main slider value.

(edit: SC embedding not working at the time this was posted, so just copy and paste meh https://soundcloud.com/noisejockey/sketch-buchla-pulse-modulation-tric k)

Way cool trick! And great sound! Thanks for sharing. SlayerBadger! It's peanut butter jelly time!

Cool!

This is excellent. Real orchestral!

This link is just weird. See the space in the spelled out URL? I didn't put that there. I've tried everything; this one track won't embed. Oh well!

I have been building a blue one for myself all weekend, and am getting close to the end. Starting to freak out a little bit about how fucking cool its going to be.

excellent recordings above!

A bit heavier drone action today: 208r in two passes through the Retro Mechanical Labs Trouble Shooter... #rawr

Finally have a working BEMI Blade with a Qu-Bit Octone, after some soldering to repair some busted wires, so here's a quick sketch of the 208r with the OB-6. Pulser of the 208r is acting the clock for the Octone. Had fun with 5/4 time and altering when the OB-6 notes would hit relative to the Buchla notes, constantly shifting around during the composition.

Sounds beautiful!

have also had the 606 hooked up to the 208 the last few days. man what fun this is. as soon as I get my envelope doohickey, i am gonna upgrade to the 808.

the spring in this thing sounds so damn good!

I finally took possession of a second boat today, so I could add the other modules that makes this 200-Easel hybrid:

Here's taking this new rig for a spin, patch notes as always in the Soundcloud description:

So great. Thanks for sharing all of this, nice listening during morning prep!

What is the module on the top left corner?
folpon
Yes. I am loving this and you are giving me massive inspiration for my new Easel. smile

That is a BEMI Blade, a 20hp Eurorack adapter. It houses a Synovatron CVGT1 for Euro-Buchla translation and a Qu-Bit Octone for a separate 8-step sequencer!

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement, everyone!

One thing I'm finding with this thing is that the low end is just insane. That's not always good; when the spring reverb is added in, that means there's a ton of sub-bass and low frequencies that eat up headroom. I am finding that I gotta strap a 35Hz HPF across this thing at almost all times.

Does anyone else's 208r also have a lot of bleed from the Pulser into the audio circuitry? In most compositions it doesn't matter but for subtle stuff it does everything from partially open an LPG to introduce tuning blips. Both are quite subtle and not dealkillers, and probably just quirks of the design...just curious.

Killer tracks from a killer setup applause

I cannot believe that you got into Buchla only for such a short time and come up with these great tracks already we're not worthy
