I saw that, it looks pretty cool

Yes! I've been waiting for this one to appear. hyper

it will be interesting to hear some demos. After this, I can decide will be perfect filler for the last space in my modular MU system or not)

Agreed, but for now I have only space in 4 cases portable system. After I will find something new I will craft and start filling new case.
cornutt
This is pretty cool. I made a promise to myself that I'm not buying anything else until I finish my new case. But I might make an exception... applause

I preordered one.

dotcom env++ vs STG

strong opinions in either direction?

STG. It does something I want that no other envelope does. It also ties to the sync bus. With the sidecar everything is cv-able.

It's interesting how trapezoid and pyramid are usable and different with classic ADSR. In terms of sound, not on oscilloscope

Make that, last two spaces --- I didn't even know about the sidecar! woah eek! love

I just preordered ... one E.G. with extra everything, to go.

I'm already pining for the British Oscillators. I want my system to be all STG. Suit And Tie Guy!

hey guys, sorry i haven't been around lately. there was the MW server issues, and Knobcon, and a close friend of mine (DJ Frowntown) died ... i haven't been "getting social" too much online right now.

i've been working. ars longa, vita brevis.

anyway, for those inthread who have placed their order already, thank you!

this EG is a vital part of my system concept, and it's been a long road. i am so happy we are at this point now.

i made a couple of short videos showing the dual-output traces from the EG on my scope. they are on my instagram page:

https://www.instagram.com/stgsoundlabs/

also here's a pic for the thread:

does anyone have any questions i could answer for them?
Eric the Red
That is a feature dense Module. I do like the nice clean look of it, even with all of the controls it doesn’t look confusing.
Just me
An in depth discussion of usage the sync mode would be nice.
kindredlost
Pre-ordered with sidecar. I want lots of these but for now one set will do nicely. I’ve been waiting for this for quite a while and am very pleased it is coming to market. Well done Suit!

Dear Mr. STG,

are there any chances to listen some audio demos of your new product. It will be great!
kindredlost
I’m a little unsure I know what the “E” control input on the sidecar is for. I am squinting at my tiny phone screen image trying to grog it all right now.

Fantastic!!
So many STG modules on my radar but I had to buy a "new" car cry

and to answer the question, E Gate is high whenever the envelope is in "Hold" mode and in the sustain portion of the contour. these gates allow you to fire off auxilliary envelopes at certain stages to accomodate more complex envelope shapes or other timbre events if so desired.

for example, maybe you want to have vibrato only after the AD section of the sound, but you also want to control AD time with velocity CV. there's no way to do that easily without a second voltage controlled EG to control the delayed vibrato. this makes patches like that much easier.
kindredlost
Thanks for the explanation on the "E" gate. It all makes sense now. Each stage has a full gate output. Very thoughtful. Are the gates +5V?

A question about the Slope input. What is the optimal input voltage here? Is it +/-5V or what?

Does the Slope knob act as an attenuator if there is an input present?

So many questions. I hope I don't cause a production delay. hihi
bwhittington
Love the look of this one. Hard to imagine more features, and yet the thoughtful panel layout seems logical and usable. That is one contrast to the Dotcom Q179, in addition to the feature differences--I find myself having to decipher the features of new Dotcom modules with the datasheets more and more.

Except for the second EG output, that is. Could someone explain what Envelope B is?

I don't strictly need more EG's, of course (3 Moon VCEG's, 2 Oakley VRG's, some 10 Dotcom Q109's, etc), but I'm tempted to try one of these for the stage gate outputs. w00t
kindredlost
Envelopes e A and envelope B are the two envelopes generated simultaneously. It matters which mode you are in.

In ADSR mode there are two types as is the case with trapezoid and pyramid blaster mode. The post above that STG made with the Instagram videos has some good visual examples.

I cannot locate that (sidecar) on your website.

Also, can you please begin publishing the current draw of your modules? I found it surprising that literally no-one knew what the draw of you "mixer" module is (I own one by the way, purchased new from you).

Some folks need to know such things, it would sure be helpful if you could publish those power specs.

Thanks.

hopefully if i sell enough envelope generators i can afford one of those lab supplies that will allow me to actually measure that.

I can help you with that. I’ve known that this majestic module was in the works for several years now, and I’ve gone out of my way to not buy envelope modules in the meantime. So I’m very, very hungry for this- congrats on it all coming together!

I also have some like-minded friends..
suitandtieguy
Nangu,

fantastic. very flattered.

btw i think we're going to have a release party for the EG at Nerd Audio in Chicago in December sometime. i'll post about it here.
nangu
That’s awesome- I’ll be there!
johny_gtr
It's interesting have you heard any news about STG EG?
I'm so curious how this will work with my filters and VCA's
mutierend
I preordered one a while back so I'm looking forward to hearing about ship dates.

It doesn't require a fancy bench power supply to measure that, less then ten bucks worth of parts and a DVM will do the trick. It's how the members here at MiffWugglers obtained the power draw specs on your "mixer".

update: mainboards and eurorack front panel PCB assemblies are in, moog format (main and sidecar) front panels assemblies are going to production very soon.

i'd like to thank the best customers in the world for being patient with me while birthing the world's most advanced ADSR.

if anyone is at the NAMM convention, stop by the booth and check them out!

update:

moog/man-size/"5U" format hardware is now fully underway at the assembly house and should be in during February.

the early investor sale i'm running will apparently continue for a few days until i get some FTP permissions taken care of while i'm on the road (NAMM is over, i spend a week in the desert afterwards to recalibrate my brain.) you can continue to save $85 off the price of the EG and sidecar until this is fixed.

thanks for your enthusiasm and patience.

Thanks for the update, Suit!

update:

PCB assemblies are in transit, i should be able to start assembling the Moog format EGs next week.

Eurorack orders should all be shipped by next week. 4/5ths of the initial completely-spoken-for run have already shipped and i'm just finishing this batch now.

thanks again for being patient with me.

here's the latest video i've done on it, just showing off voltage control of decay:

I may have to pick up a pack of adult diapers when this one arrives. Suit And Tie Guy!

That side car is going to make all the difference I think.
johny_gtr
Thank you for the update.
I even forgot about my new env module and thought about which module will be good to fill the last empty position in my MU system.

Is anyone here who received their STG EGs? I found one in the Instagram but maybe it's from 'marketing' batch seriously, i just don't get it
mutierend
I haven't received mine. I ordered it back in October I think with expected delivery before NAMM. Not sure why they're delayed.

Using a slow LFO ramp wave to shift the high ping sound timing with the T1 input of the sidecar.

This EG has some very wide timings. From super quick to very slow. I haven't even begun to explore the depth of this module. Having fun for now though.

Fifty years ago I remember hearing a similar sonar sound in a famous movie that my father took me to see in Cinerama. He passed away this week so I thought this would be a good commemorative piece to remind me of our common love of space exploration. He was a pilot and made of the "right stuff".
Good Journey ahead Dad!
suitandtieguy
that was quick. really glad to see you have it and are using it already, and doing some good exploration with it as well. thank you.

i'll post a more elaborate update tomorrow, i need to get a few more of these out so i can breathe for a second.
kindredlost
Extremely well built modules.

A couple of points I'd like to make...

1. It wasn't readily evident which direction to align the sidecar ribbon cable in back. There is a dot to the upper right above the connector by the lettering so I assumed it was for the red stripe, but it was a little hard to detect right off.
FUUUCCKKKK!!!

2. The sync bus cable is too short for my use. I didn't have it connected for this video and will have to re-arrange the module placement or make a longer one to reach the Time Buffer/Artron Interface. I have the TB on the far left and this EG on the far right of a 22 space portable cab (11 spaces wide). I'd say the cable is long enough to reach about 8 module spaces apart. I think a full 12 module space spread would be better considering you have to avoid the PCB's on the back side of each module as well. If I center the Time Buffer in the array then it'll work fine.

If I could afford it I'd have a dozen of these modules. Absolutely the most comprehensive and flexible envelope generator I've ever used. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of exploration into the different modes and timings.
Thanks Mr.Tie! Suit And Tie Guy!

Have also received the long awaited STG EG (and sidecar). Yes, beautifully made and full of functionality. Unfortunately no time right now to install, but very psyched!

Congrats to Mr. Suit.

just wanted to post an update. this is going to be very explicit, because i like you so much.

eurorack: have shipped all save two of the eurorack format orders. i'm sorry to my dotcomrades for having to go second, but i had to sequence the manufacturing the way i did.

american format: i've got some of these out, and next week i will have the first half of the modules shipped. however i now need to re-order front panels, so there will be about a 3 week to month delay before i can finish the orders.

i hesitated to reorder the panels because i wanted to build some of these first to make sure everything would go together OK. this is kind of my most finicky build, because of the LED light pipes and the buttons, two parts i have used before but never in this quantity. i wound up having an issue in assembly where the holes for the buttons were just a bit too small. they clear OK, but unless the whole thing goes together _perfectly_ the buttons can rub along the side of the hole and not spring back into place.

all of the shipped modules are AOK. these issues are not a problem once it is assembled. i just want to get my tolerances in order and i had to actually kind of build a small run of these first so i could get this sorted out.

"don't the eurorack modules have the same assembly issues?" well yes, but apparently i had enough panels i don't have to post this explanation.

anyway, i'm sorry if this delay is an issue. it did take longer than i thought it would, so i am extending a 25 percent discount on your next module order to anyone who placed an advance order, eurorack or moog format, for the Envelope Generator.

also, that was a very flattering thing kindredlost said. thank you.
kindredlost
I haven't had a bit of problems with the buttons on the one I have. So far it is 100 percent in working order.
I'm going to have to move out another EG (or two) to make more room for another set of these modules. It's peanut butter jelly time!

I plan to try a varying EG patch by taking a stage output from the sidecar and running it through a voltage sequencer to return different voltages to the sidecar on each step of a sequence. It should prove to be a little less typical of a patch due to the ability to tap into different stages of the envelope (both the input and the output) rather than just the gate or start edge of the envelope.

I also wonder how this variation might work in the loop modes? hmmm.....

I have a question about the response of the sidecar inputs. Are they linear, logarithmic or exponential? confused
