I'm really interested in getting into the world of live visuals, specifically glitched-out DIY stuff.

I really don't want to spend a ton of money right now, so I was wondering if there are any good suggestions for a starter setup.

I'm really interested in finding a video mixer that can handle glitched out signals. (or software if that's a cheaper route)

I'm also looking into devices like the 3trinsrgb+1c and the BPMC Fluxus. BMPC Fluxus looks like a fairly simple kit I could build. I don't think I could build a 3trins easily. I have pretty shaky hands.

Any suggestions on where to start?

If you have a mac try lumen... it’s very good.. and can be midi sequenced

if you can code (or would like to learn)
try Processing (a sketchbook version of java for graphics processing)
Oscillatoscope 2 is interesting and cheap...

It's a bit of work, but if you can find an old Archer video enhancer/stabilizer, they make for a fun diy bending project. Even easier are things like the dirty mixer and CHA/V. Google 'em.
