Maybe R4, R55 and R60 need a lower value for +/-12V operation.

Hey Fonik

I see your BOM has different values depending on whether or not we use a TL431 for the Eurorack version.

Would you recommend using one or not? What are the benefits?

Can’t wait to start soldering!

Do the designations (numbering of resistors) match to does in the build documentation? Anyway, the TL431 is not included.

2nd. The document currently doesnt explain what the pros and cons are of the options there are.

Looks a great project though. The design notes from Thomas Henry are amazing to read aswell. I wish more designers published those.

I want a MOTM version, maybe I design a control pcb to connect the jacks and pots in a easy way.

It’s not something I’ve used before and seems to come in many shapes and sizes!

Also, are people building with or without a TL431?

Been waiting on a thru hole CEM VCO to happen for a while.

On the Thonk site the main BOM says R4=820R but the alternative says 3K omit, 4k7 or 10k. Am I reading this incorrectly?

The main board is format independent. It can run at 12 or 15V. The BOMs you encounter are assuming 15V operation. Matthias added a provision for a voltage regulator for improved pitch accuracy. Its on the board, and optional parts for it are listed in Matthias' BOM. I have not yet found much documentation describing it.

So you can build this 12 or 15V, with or without the regulator. Those are the four cases listed in the table following Matthias' BOM.

This table still does not explain C1_B, R26_B or R27_B. hmmm.....

Yes, I understand the purpose of the table, but none of the cases for R4 match the value on the main (15 volt version) BOM. Other resistors on the table do match. Is this a typo or is there another interpretation?

Has anyone succeeded building this yet? I went with 12V BOM revisions as stated in Fonik's build doc, using the TL431 and I have a dead VCO. The CEM3340 is putting out no waveshapes (powered from either the TL431 or the +12V rail). The chip tests good outside of this circuit. There are a bunch of discrepancies between the TH published BOM and the build doc that Fonik wrote. There are components on the board that are not shown on the published schematic or Fonik's BOM. Seems like there are errors in the substitution table (R4?). I'm tempted to just put this away until the build doc gets sorted out.

[edit] Caveat: its entirely possible that I just made some stupid error in my build.

Mine hasn't arrived yet, probably held up in the Xmas post, heading to the outer colonies. zombie

Fuzzbass, yeah hold off for a bit or if you are a member of the http://electro-music.com/ forum you could go ask a question directly in the Thomas Henry forum. I'm fairly confident that you will get a decent response there.

Yeah I did that already. I don't want to bother Thomas, I'm pretty sure the issue is with parts substituted or added in the Fonik design and his doc seems like a work in progress right now. I'm hoping Fonik releases a schematic that shows the circuit on his board with the optional regulator. I don't have my back to wall for VCOs right now, so I think I'll just wait for that or see what other wigglers find.

Can you run these at +/- 12V? I only have 12 on my rack, but a lot of these CEM designs (digisound, opencem, this), all have +/-15V supplies.
