how is it? do u use it with the lxr?

how is it for other gear?

how easy is it to make?
shagrax
I have one.
It is easy to build, albeit a bit tedious with the 60 pots!

I enjoy using it as a general midi controller for FX inside ableton.
would also pair well with an ES-3 or similar, i bet.

@shagrax r u a DIY god, i only have a bit of soldering experience, will it be ok for me

or are there builders for the 60knobs too?
FetidEye
I've build one for someone.
It is doable, but I found that the solderpads are very small and with a groundplane , sometimes it can be hard to get those gnd holes filled.

It would have been easy to have bigger solderpads, there is enough space on the pcb. That is my only critical comment.
The case is sturdy, the kit is very complete (they even included the solder tin)

there are not many parts except for the pots smile
so it can be tedious to solder / align them, but the result is awesome!

I did not have a LXR to test it, but the editor is good and you can even control a dx7 with it.!!

I have one I just built and am waiting for my lxr to arrive in the mail. I am a beginner solderer and I think it went well because the led lights and flashes when I switch midi channels and presets. However, I can't get it to interact with the editor software when I want to upload a custom preset. What midi interfaces are working for other users? I read that it didn't work so good with USB sticks but what other options are there besides USB?

I've got one and I like it! It's very unique in that it's compact, has lots of knobs and actual DIN MIDI ports!

I use it to control my iPad's audio effects in AudioBus/AUM:

The editor software works without problems on my Mac, using a cheap USB-MIDI cable.

Have you checked if the 60 Knobs receives and sends MIDI data at all using a MIDI monitor in your computer? Some cheap USB-MIDI cables can indeed be wonky, although I haven't had any problems with mine. Try out a "proper" USB-MIDI Interface box or another cheap cable, but maybe first make sure that you built everything correctly and check your soldering and components.

Made a quick video about the 60Knobs Mr. Green

I read the manual again and I think the USB-MIDI interface has to be class compliant, i.e. it should work without special drivers (at least on a Mac).

I have built two and they are fun and easy to build. Like FetidEye said: The solder pads are small and the ground holes are hard to get filled. Reflowed a couple of ground pads when I was troubleshooting. But the only problem I had is with the enclosure. The hole for the Function button whas a bit too small ( maybe my buton was not well alligned?) So the function button whas getting stuck when I assembled the enclosure. What I did was enlarged the hole with a drill. Miley Cyrus It did the trick!

I made one for my friend for him to control Ableton Live and one for me for my LXR.

Can’t make the 60 knobs work with LXR alternate firmware version 0.37 but works great with 0.36

Now I must map and save all th other controls of the LXR on the other 4 banks for a totall hands on... God I love the combo LXR/60 knobs! w00t

mini shafts though... is there a knob that can slide over those easily? or are they removable to expose a bare pot shaft?

I have color coded my 60 knobs horizontally with micro knobs at Thonk:

Are they a tight fit? Can you remove them?

Tight fit indeed but removable... Take your time...

Beautiful!

3 things:

1- Reflow the ground pads

2- Clean pcb with alchool

3- Enlarge the Fubction button hole of the enclosure

By the way, if you don't know it already, the 60Knobs merges incoming MIDI data with its own and sends everything to the MIDI OUT port.

So you could create a setup like this (from the above video):

Keyboard to 60Knobs MIDI IN, 60Knobs MIDI OUT to Synth or whatever, which will receive both the keyboard's and the 60Knobs' MIDI data. This basically let's you add 60 more knobs to any MIDI controller nanners

Cool!! Danke herr Doktor!!

Thinking of maybe making one of these as a controller for a Microwave mk1. Anybody see any problems?

From glancing at the manual's MIDI implementation chart it seems like the Microwave doesn't require anything special in regards to MIDI control, so the 60Knobs should work. However it also mentions something about "4 free assignable controllers" plus the usual fixed ones (Mod, Breath, Pan, etc.). Does that mean that there can only be four other parameters mapped to an external controller? If so, you'd have 50 Kinos to spare Mr. Green

Here's how I've got my 60Knobs set up with the other gear:

By the way, I was thinking it would be cool to power the 60Knobs from a USB power supply. In the schematics there is a simple 9V to 5V converter, which one could probably just bypass. The core is an Arduino running on 5V anyway. I might modify mine when I have the time. With USB power, I could use one of those mobile phone power banks to power it on the go, which would be better than taking 9V batteries I suppose. Maybe I'll test it with those first.

I've just built my 60knobs, and it all turns on fine etc but I'm having trouble getting any actual useful MIDI out of, or into it - MIDI-OX just seems to receive system reset messges when I move a knob, dump settings etc.

What do you mean by reflow the ground pads?
I couldn't find any mention of ground pads in the assembly guide.
Maybe this is why mine doesn't work!

Wow this looks like a really handy controller, and very cool that it is DIY based! I wonder if it would pair well with a CC+ Chroma.. It has nearly enough knobs to handle all of the functions. I suppose it is missing push buttons and not sure how or if it handles things like SysEx Data Requests.. Still quite a col knobby interface!
