can anyone recommend sortware for orchestral sounds. i imagine to the trained ear software doesn't come close but is there anything out there that will allow me to mock up ideas

Bigcat has some free VSTi available. Maybe no one would mistake them for a hired orchestra, but maybe a step closer to that than a Mellotron.

Always a good way to create/emphasize harmonics from field recordings - actually, any recordings.

Can turn even the most banal VST instrument short sequences into golden sacred-sounding tones.
