Just got an email from Soma saying that the first batch is sold out, and that batch two is in production.

thumbs up

I'm looking so forward to this thing I had to use some of the samples from the downloadable ETHER SONG that Soma uploaded. In the ending half, you'll hear the "Drum" track and a little of the "Bass" track in this new Disquiet piece:

I'm seriously considering picking one of these up. Might even cancel my Spotify sub and just listen to this whenever i'm out and about hihi

Yes, ETHER seems to have some things in common with the Elektrosluch - I'm looking forward to finding out any differences/improvements.
My primary use will be live performances. With Elektrosluch (which I absolutely love!) I have experienced loud humming noises from PSUs (of course!); maybe the ETHER will handle that balance a bit smoother (haven't had a chance to test it yet).

Disclaimer: I have recently become acquainted with SOMA, so don't trust me in anything I say.
There won't be any shady advertising from me, though, promise...

Cheers,
Bert

I’m totally in love with this project from SOMA labs. Unfortunately I can’t order (or wait) for a unit ATM.
So I started playing around with some different RF sensing circuits, having some very interesting results!
First I’ve built an RF sensing device based on 2 germanium diodes. Works on 9V battery.
It takes one CA3140 opamp (might work with a modern single rail opamp like the TLC271 or272 for dual...) but I’ve read somewhere that the CA3140 has the right Input impedance for this type of antenna amplification.
The output works ok for headphones-I’ve built it in stereo, each channel has its own slightly different antenna.
The antenna in this circuit is a key element and you can totally sense anything from low Frequency stuff like AC power to Am/Fm radio, to WiFi and some blips and clicking noises from electronic devices or nearby phones... it supposed to sense anything between few hertz to a couple of Giga hertz.
As for the antenna- experiment with different coils, long wires and whip antennas. Very sensitive and effective circuit for what it is, and I’m sure it can be improved in many ways..

Another device I’m experimenting with, is a relatively cheap Chinese, pre built RF sensing circuit, Based on the AD8317 IC. This chip can sense anything between 1mhZ to 10GhZ and when connected to an amplifier it can give some incredible Results, although I’m getting some high pitch sound indoors, which I can’t eliminate yet...

The last device I’m currently experimenting with is a natural VLF radio receiver based on this interesting project - Stephen P. McGreevy's BBB-4 :

The description and schematics are all in the link.

I’m not saying that anything here is the same as the ETHER project. I just don’t know. I got the feeling it’s much more then these, with 2 different antennas inside, a solid output and probably a nice preamp section etc.
I’m pretty sure that I’m going to buy one from SOMA when they’ll be available in the future. Meanwhile I’m just having a little fun here:)

Was fortunate/deeply thankful to make the initial cut on the first batch. Mine arrived from Russia this morning. What a delight!

Just got back from an hour with this thing out downtown in Austin. Man! Here's an hour of raw audio:

what's up with production on these? I have a preorder active since late March through Perfect Circuit and not seeing them available anywhere...

I tried to buy one direct from Soma a month or two back, but had to back out because Paypal won't let me send money to Russia. I told them I'd just get one when it shows up stateside and they replied that it could be several months before PCA et al have them.

I ordered directly from Soma June 22nd and it arrived to California USA this week so it all took a little under a month.

The version I have looks a little different from the picture on the website. There's 2 pots and 2 'antennas'. I'm guessing each pot is the volume for each antenna? Haven't tested yet, need to go get batteries!!

I had the same issue since my regular PP account is a business account. I ended up making another one that wasn't and I was able to pay.

After I ordered in April I got it within a couple of weeks. From what I heard last there are so many direct orders that they won't be shipping to dealers for a while yet.
