Here we go !
The "official" build thread for SY-CORE and SY-MOD projects.
You have a question, something went wrong, this is the place to ask help.
Any tip, please share it here.

For those who did not order full kits, you will have to source all the parts yourself.
Here are the BOMs for SY-CORE and SY-MOD:

1st tip: I recommend to use electrolytic capacitors whose height is equal or less than 8 mm.

w00t Couple parts sourcing questions based on a quick look for the SY-CORE:

If ordered pcbs... smd components are not listed on BOM as they come pre-soldered right? Looks to just be some ICs from the photo

Transistors: 2SC1815 seems easy enough to source, but I'm having trouble locating 2SA1015 on Mouser - any other cheap (enough) source or PNP replacements that would be ok?

Any part numbers for the 470n tantalum caps and the rotary switch would be appreciated, too. Thanks!

Yes, all ICs are pre-soldered.

You can use 2SA733s instead of 2SA1015s.
Though I don't know if they are easier to source or cheaper.
Zthee used BC547/BC557 for his clone.
You could use them too but you'll have to bend some transistor legs...
You should have a look at the datasheets.
I used 2SC1815GR and 2SA1015GR transistors because this is what Pearl used in the original Syncussion and a local supplier has them in stock so they are quite easy to source for me.
I can always put a transistor set in my shop for those who have a hard time to source them and really want the original parts.

The rotary switch I used is also from a local supplier.
What you need is a 6-position 1-pole rotary switch
The rotation angle between each position must be 30 deg.
But usually 6-position 2-pole ones are cheaper and easier to source.

You can replace 470n Tantalum caps with electrolytic ones.

Thanks for the suggestions and the links.. I'll do some more poking around and see if I can find the original specified transistors elsewhere. Normally I might just socket them and try different ones but 20+ sockets would be absurd smile

If anyone has ideas for us in the US... we're not worthy

I am no parts supplier therefore those parts can only be ordered with SY-CORE or SY-MOD PCBs.

Noticed there was an error in the SY-MOD BOM.
Just one resistor was 100K instead of 10K.
I fixed it and you can download the correct BOM using the link in the 1st post.
It now links to the new PDF.

The carts are missing the mechanical parts, the headers, the rotary switch, all transistors, 100KA & 500KA pots and the 100K trimmer at the bottom of SY-CORE.

OK, here we are for some build info.

1st off, to the guys who bought full kits.
The 10KA pots enclosed with the full kits are not Thonk's and you need to cut off the small anti-rotation tag.


The rotary switch tag too needs to be cut.


As well as the shaft that is too long.


So it looks like this with the knob:


To all builders, you need to be careful not to cut the pins of the header near the U shape of the middle board.
Once finished, the middle board should look like this:


And the top/control board like this:


You will need to wire the rotary switch to the bottom board like this:


At the end, the module should look like this:

Forgot to say that the calibration is the same as the Syncussion.
For example, you can refer to the calibration procedure for the Human Comparator Syncussion.
However, it should be easier since the modulation sources are not connected.
Just make sure that nothing's patched to the CV inputs.
The test points are the same: TP1, TP2 & TP3.
If you don't have a scope, you can calibrate the noise by ear.
With the Osc Mode set to F, just turn the Width pot fully clockwise and adjust the trimmer until you find the noise volume appropriate.
As for the tracking and VCO2 tuning, you just need a good multimeter with frequency meter.

According to the tracking numbers, some people have received their PCBs/kits already.
Please post pictures of your builds.

I got the pcbs and panels, they look great! im building the mod first, is there a reference for which transistors to use in T1-4? Im assuming Q1 is 2SK30A N-Channel Junction FET.

Sure about that? Service Manual states Y for both

Because of the lack of space, there is no reference for the transistors.
You have to rely on the parts symbol.

This symbol is for 2SC1815 transistors:


This one is for 2SA1015s:

I figured it out, just got confused by the not connected hole between com and F d'oh!

One of the presoldered ICs were soldered in the wrong orientation causing the module to malfunction. Could you please provide a picture showing correct ic-orientation on the pcbs so I can doublecheck before powering up the rest? Dead Banana

Well, I wonder how you can assume that since you don't have the schematics nor the PCBs layout... hmmm.....
Please post a picture of your PCB so I can check it out.

I ordered several kits, so with a reductionist approach that IC seemed to be the only difference. I built a second top board to swap with and by doing so the module was no longer acting strange/messing with my PSU.

Have a look:


The upper PCB with the standoffs has the IC wrongly oriented no? The notch is towards "pharmasonic" side of the PCB
