USB Cable color question

Author USB Cable color question

I have an USB cable which has 4 cables on the inside...

GREEN RED WHITE and...ORANGE...

All references on the net say they usually have green, red, white and black...

Do you think I can safely assume safely that in my case ...Orange is the new Black ?? ;-)

If it’s the opposite end to the red and +V, then it probably is. I’m talking about the contacts in the USB plug in case you think I’ve lost half my reply!

Looks like a USB 2.0 cable. I think it is safe to assume that the orange wire is GND.

No, check the connections to the plug with a multimeter / continuity tester.

Definitely don't make assumptions if they're swapping standards. Some USB cables are orange/blue/white/green, with orange signifying +5V and white signifying ground. If this cable is throwing in a random color it could be anything, so as nigel said check the wires against the assembly contacts with a multimeter.
